cagoule magazine 01 Cagoule Magazine Issue #1

Magculture introduce us to Cagoule, a grown-up magazine from the folks who make excellent kids publication Anorak. If you ever get a chance to pick up the children’s version do, it’s a great piece of eye-popping design. The adult version keeps that same sense of fun which is what will set it apart from it’s rather more serious minded competitors.

In terms of content it jumps from subject to subject; history, comics strips, food, poetry,  fiction…what draws it all together is a sense of humour and a strong aesthetic which manages to be playful rather than silly. A cheerful, well-written read for anyone looking for something a bit different. Get yours here.

Kai-Aakman Oversized Drape Anorak

Kai-Aakman Oversized Drape Anorak

This season anoraks, parkas, and one-piece pullover jackets have been very prevalent in menswear. Kai-Aakman pulls this classic style and adds something new to the anorak form. Aakman made the piece in an oversized style with an “exaggerated drawstring hood.” The jacket also offers a “double layer front with inner layer zip closure.” The greatest part of this piece that if there was anyone that wanted a trench with a hood this would probably catch your attention. The piece is made of 100% cotton and comes in navy. It’s available at OakNYC.

Norse Projects Alvar Jacket

Norse Projects Alvar Jacket

Norse Projects debut their Spring/Summer 2011 collection with an arsenal of great pieces.”SS11 draws inspiration from bare-footed beach days in the long and mystical Scandinavian summer light, and as always, our long and rich Nordic history.” The “Alvar” Jacket is a “nordic inspired anorak,” that is made in the United Kingdom. The jacket comes in two colorways: freesia, a light yellow color and stellar – a almost sky blue color. The extended elbow detail that hits the cuff of the wrist is not only aesthetically nice, it looks like that part is re-enforced. A great piece that would really help with the unpredictable weather conditions.

J. Crew Indigo Fleece Anorak Jacket

J. Crew delivers an “Indigo Fleece Anorak” pull-over jacket for Spring 2011. “We took an ultra-hearty french terry fleece, dyed it in real indigo,” and “washed it to absolute softness for a cool vintage-denim effect.” The fleece piece looks really soft and the French terry material is amazing on. The jacket offers a hood with a “henley” styled collar closure, button placket, long sleeves, and a rib trim on the cuffs. A great piece for the natural indigo dye fan. Available at J.Crew.
