Aquascutumn Cable Knit

For whatever reason, the cream Aran knit is taking over the trendy side of East London at the moment (meaning that any bloggers across the pond will be going crazy over it next year when J. Crew do a suitable copy). The problem with the versions the ‘cool’ kids are wearing is that they’re usually poorly sized and well, a bit rubbish. So upgrade yourself with this Aquascutum cable knit*, which has all the advantages of the vintage aran knit – i.e it looks good – and none of that funky smell. You’ll probably do well to size up though, judging from how tight this looks. (My Wardrobe)

From the Fashionisto come a look at the Autumn 2010 campaign for Aquascutum. “Edward Enninful styles a striking campaign for Aquascutum’s fall outing as photographed by Willy Vanderperre. Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 Limited Collection

selectism - Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 Limited Collection

“Understated British Elegance”

Aquascutum keeps to the above tag with their current spring/summer 2010 limited collection. The London firm is all about attention to detail and fine tailoring. They’ve been at it for awhile – since 1853, when they invented the first waterproof cloth – and has at various times been a favorite of every British male in my family.

On the right you’ll see the Northam Raincoat in beige. It’s a contemporary take on the garment that made Aquascutum famous so many years ago. Like most of the brand’s outerwear, expect that it is made with care in Corby, Northamptonshire. While suits and shirting fall into the collection, Aquascutum is at its best protecting us from the elements.

More looks after the Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 limited collection follow.

Aquascutum Coated Canvas Briefcase

selectism - aquascutum-briefcase

This is listed as a tote bag over at Luisviaroma, but it looks like a briefcase/attache case, so that’s what we’ll call it. For a company that was on the brink of bankruptcy just a few months ago, Aquascutum have done an amazing job of getting their new collection into stores. They’re known for their coats but, judging from this bag, their accessories range is nothing to sniff at.

While this is a great bag, the question to ask is ‘just how much can it carry?’ And the answer to that? Not much. If you only ever carry a magazine and some loose files, this will be perfect but laptop luggers will want to look elsewhere. (Luisviaroma)

Aquascutum Navy Mac

selectism - aquascutum-navy-mac

Whilst there’s no shortage of casual rain coats out this season – mainly thanks to Albam making several covetable versions – there’s still room the sleeker option; the mac. We hate to make sweeping statements, so we’ll refrain from calling this the best, but it does the job and does it well. It’s also relatively affordable at £198, compared to the overcoat’s pricing of £618. It’ll be too light for heavy winter, but you should get some good wearage out of it whilst Autumn still lingers. Aquascutum puts workforce into consultation

aquascutum consultation Aquascutum puts workforce into consultation

Aquascutum’s future looks shaky as their entire workforce of over 300 was put into consultation. This follows chief executive Kim Winser’s depature from the company a few weeks ago after years of consecutive losses. The consultation is dependent on whether Chinese trading company YGM trading pursue their bid of the company, but if it doesn’t go through with the deal the feeling is that Aquascutum may be another high profile fashion casualty. #moneygeddonstrikesagain (Drapers)

Aquascutum Moccasins

aquascutum moccasins Aquascutum Moccasins

Aquascutum are typically a very stern, very British brand. Their pieces might show one or two flashes of flamboyance, but they were never came anywhere near being extravagant. That’s why these moccasins stand out from the crowd. Mixing the tasselled part of a loafer with the traditionally more European moccasins, they’ve created something of a unique shoe.
