Selectism - tobias-rehberger-artek-01

Designboom turns us onto this collaboration between German artist Tobias Rehberger and Finnish furniture makers Artek. Speaking to the boom, Rehberger said that:

“‘I like the idea of creating a visual art project which is about ‘not seeing something’. the painting method of battle ships
in the first and second world war, the so called dazzle painting, in a way for me perfectly represents this paradox.
the sculpture I created for turku is based on the same concept as the one in venice. it applies a completely different pattern
to the space, but despite its very different look, it should have the same dazzling effect
.’”

Yeah, what he said. Take a look at more shots after the leap.

Artek and Beams Stool

We’ve talked frequently about our enjoyment of Artek product, particularly as it relates to the manufacture of Aalvar Alto designs. This stool breaks the mold, a bit for us anyway, and introduces a new collaborative effort between the maker and Japanese firm Beams. Zhang wool in the style of Finnish textile designer Johanna Gullichsen. A nice deviation from what we’re used to, and proof of the potential of this brilliant base.

Artek for MONOCLE Stools

Selectism - Artek for MONOCLE Stools

MONOCLE Magazine and Artek Furniture teamed up together for the launch of a stool. "MONOCLE is now joining forces with Artek to bring you an anniversary edition of Stool 60. The anniversary stool is upholstered with Finnish moose leather. The texture of the leather is stunningly elegant and at same time rugged and comfortable, since the scars and other marks of life are visible. Intriguing details at the bottom of the stool are the black iron nails and brass screws which will age gracefully over time. The anniversary edition is hand made with special care and numbered." selectism - artek stool 60

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the iconic Stool 60, Artek has mounted an instillation formed by the stools in New York’s Gansvoort Square. The Stool 60 was designed by Finnish architect/designer Alvar Alto in 1933. See further details of the monument after the jump. (via notcot)
