1939 Pontiac Ghost Car

Selectism - ghost-car-01

Can this writer admit that he’s just not that into cars? But even he has to admit that this is a pretty amazing vehicle. Made in 1939, the plexiglass outer was a collaboration between General Motors and Rohm & Haas. Completely see through, it’s been owned by one family since the ’80s and has only clocked up 98 miles since then. Presumably it was only brought out when the family felt they needed to stunt like their daddy. (Found By James)

Jaguar E-Type Speedster Restoration by Eagle

Jaguar E-Type Speedster Restoration by Eagle

Don’t really know how to start on this. The Eagle group are die-hard Jaguar E-type fans – more than fans, really. They are premier restorers of the classic automobiles. Their latest is this incredible re-work of the Jaguar E-type Speedster with photos that make you dream a bit.

Conversations started between him and Paul Brace from Eagle, and the word Speedster’ was mentioned.  Paul got out his pencil and sketched a shape. Rick loved it, and that was the start of Eagle Speedster No.1.   Over the next months, in tandem with running the main Eagle business, Paul worked to design and perfect the details of this truly unique and extraordinary E-Type…Faithful to the Jaguar E-Type of the 1960s with classic detail and finishing, it was fitted with the finest Eagle E-Type engineering including the Eagle  4.7 litre engine, the 5-speed gearbox and the optimized suspension.”

Nasty… the good way.

Ralph Laurent "Art de l' Automobile" Exhibition Products

Colette has a range of goods from the Ralph Lauren’s automobile exhibition: “Art de l’ Automobile.” Choose from driving loafers, polos, nut trays (I said it), ashtrays, and some very expensive model Ferrari and  classic Bugatti models (looking at 3500euro for one of the sub-100 units on each). Live large or at least to scale if you can.

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

A killer new hybrid Porsche will make its debut next month in Geneva. The Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is no slouch. As Autoblog tells us: “Porsche has just announced that the it is expanding its hybrid fleet with the addition of the Panamera S Hybrid. The big sedan will come to the party packing a combined 380 horsepower, a figure Porsche says is good enough to get the machine to 62 mph in six seconds flat en route to a top speed of 168 mph. A total of 333 of those ponies are derived from the company’s supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, while the remaining 47 horsepower will be served up by an electric motor.” We’re getting there folks. The future.

Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon LAPV 6.X Concept

Selectism - Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon LAPV 6.X Concept

Woah. Luxist points us at this new G-Wagon from Mercedes-Benz that was unveiled at “Eurosatory Defense Exposition 2010″ – a clearly not so ordinary conference as you can tell based on the vehicle. “The G-Wagon LAPV 6.X Concept is the latest armored military version of the legendary sport-ute. Its common-rail diesel engine can propel it, along with all the armor plating and 2,866 lbs of cargo, up to a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour. It’s also got an adjustable suspension with 18 inches of ground clearance and enough attitude to make your enemies surrender without firing a single shot.” (luxist)

Techart Panamera Black Edition Automobile

Selectism - Techart Panamera Black Edition Automobile

Black matte, when done well, just does not grow old. From Autoblog. “Painting a car matte black is nothing new. In fact, a quick look at the Autoblog archive reveals that both manufacturers like Lotus and Mazda as well as dozens of tuners have succumbed to the trend. Hamann, Brabus, Gemballa and Novitec have all come out with special edition models with the flat black livery. The latest to join the club is Techart, which recently unveiled the Panamera Black Edition.”

Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE “G-Couture” by Philip Plein

Selectism - Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE "G-Couture" by Philip Plein

The title of this post took a while to get right. I blame the hands of AMG and Philip Plein for over-making the Benz G 55 into some thing which is a bit tough for my tastes (hence the massive title). Autoblog agrees. “While we aren’t necessarily against fully cladding a G55 in carbon fiber, our hesitation with the G-Couture is less about the concept and more about the execution. The front end particularly looks overly-styled, and the unpainted fibers seem more appropriate on a sports car. We can, however, appreciate the upgrades done underneath the hood. Mansory has boosted the supercharged V8 to 700 horsepower and 649 lb-ft torque. Necessary? Of course not, but impressive nonetheless.”

Mini To Debut “Moke” Off Road Vehicle

Selectism - Mini To Debut "Moke" Off Road Vehicle

Autoblog reports in with word on the latest off road concept vehicle from the Mini family. “America’s second-smallest brand plans to debut a new R60 Countryman-based soft-roader called the Mini Moke at the Detroit Auto Show next month. What’s more, if public reaction is favorable enough, the Moke could be in production by 2012… Like the original model from Morris, we’re told to expect an open top with a stripped-out interior, sort of like a less-rugged Jeep Wrangler. All-wheel drive will be included, and we’d expect the chassis to be jacked up a bit to enable a modicum of off-road ability. We’re not entirely sure how a vehicle based on the Countryman could recall the ethos of the original, but we look forward to finding out.”

2011 Ford Mustang V6

Selectism - 2011 Ford Mustang V6

Autoblog previews the forthcoming 2011 Ford Mustang V6. This vehicle holds a special and sad place in my heart. Growing up my father had a 1969 Mustang Mach1 which was promised to become mine when I turned 16. Somehow it did not make it to see my 16th birthday. I didn’t get the freaking car. But maybe that is a good thing as the 2011 model rolls out with even more horsepower. “For 2011, the Blue Oval is introducing a new 3.7-liter V6 Mustang that should give it the firepower and refinement needed to take on Chevrolet’s six-cylinder Camaro and Hyundai’s upstart Genesis Coupe. But it isn’t just the spanking all-aluminum powerplant and its 305 horsepower and 280 foot-pounds of torque that’s making the scene for the forthcoming model year.”
