In the “set your goals high” category, comes the end all be all for 2009 in carbon black driving machines. “As if your average, run-of-the-mill Aston Martin wasn’t special enough, the folks that regularly rifle around in 007’s garage have now put together a pair of limited editions of their DBS and V12 Vantage sports coupes. As you might guess by the Carbon Black name, the special versions have decidedly noir paint schemes. Nerd out, Defender 90 fanatics. Land Rover is about to issue some limited edition Fire & Ice editions of the legendary model. Around 850 units will be produced for the global market. As Autoblog tells us, “The limited-production Fire & Ice editions come packed with all the features they could fit in the Defender: Recaro buckets, leather and Alcantara trim, diamond-turned alloys, color-coded head- and tail- lights, glass sunroof panel, running boards and more. The Fire edition comes in a special Vesuvius Orange metallic paint, the Ice edition in Alaska white, both offset by Santorini black accents.” Expect to pay around $95,000 for the Defenders.

Autoblog has a nice write-up on the 75 year legacy of BMW’s Roadster line. “We generally think of BMW as the maker of some of the world’s best sports sedans, but its put out some impressive roadsters over the years. Seventy-five years to be exact. The Bavarian auto manufacturer has been producing two-door open-seaters for three quarters of a century now, starting with 315/1 Sports model that was unveiled at the 1934 Berlin Motor Show followed by the more powerful 319/1.”

Audi celebrates their 100th anniversary in proper fashion with a limited edition timepiece. Teaming with Chronoswiss, Audio is issuing 100 units of the Tachoscope Watch. “The Tachoscope features an Audi Design case with the Chronoswiss caliber C. 125, modofied with a unique configuration that leaves only the minute hand attached to the center of the dial…The dial is enamel and the numerals are inspired by the instruments of the Auto Union race cares of the 1930s.” Choose between 18kt gold (65 units) and platinum (35 units) . Inhabitant drops images of the new Mercedes hybrid vehicle which looks a lot like something out of Back to the Future 3. “In what is clearly an attention-grabbing move, Daimler today has just unveiled the F-CELL Roadster, a wacky-looking vehicle that is a ‘hybrid’ in more ways than one. Literally the roadster is fitted with a 1.2 kW hybrid drive – one that allows the F-CELL to reach a top speed of 15 mph and achieve an operating range of 217 miles.”

Forbes’ Jacqueline Mitchell went out and discovered that not all luxury vehicles turn a blind eye to the environment. "For those who want to drive a high-performance luxury car loaded with high-tech features, and still be as environmentally friendly as possible, there are options. From sedans to SUVs, automakers offer a few cars that are every bit as stylish and luxurious as their brethren but don’t necessarily guzzle as much gas. However, the pickings are slim."
