The holidays are a time to be your best; help those around you, give thanks, and pack on a few pounds of food all the while understanding that in January, it’s business as usual. Band of Outsiders is celebrating this holiday season with a fashionable collection of jackets and ties that are appropriate. Valet caught up with Scott Sternberg, the mind behind Band of Outsiders, about their lookbooks, which for seasons have been shot using nothing more than a Polariod camera. “The clothes are modeled by photographer Paul Jasmin, who the designer felt was a natural fit. ‘I met him a while back and we became friends,’ says Sternberg, who shoots every look book himself with a simple Polaroid camera. ‘We just shot in and around his place, which is in this historic L.A. building—it was a lot of fun’.”

It’s easy to dismiss trends, but some are worth picking up on. The tricky one for this season (and seasons to come, judging from the use of it on the catwalk) is the bow tie. Just recently we reported about the 30th anniversary of the Lego mini figure. Band Of Outsiders and Opening Ceremony are also celebrating the occasion, having created together a set of oxford shirts, inspired in terms of color, by Lego. Boat shoes have invaded the fashion market in the past couple of seasons. Manyoffered some nice styles, but we were especially excited about the collaboration by Band Of Outsiders and the ultimate classic in this market, Sperry Topsider. Why bothermaking something less good, if you can just work with the experts in the field? One of a few collaborations that make total sense.

Here we give you a preview what the two have coming up for the Fall/Winter 2008 season. They offer a nice selection of low cut boat shoes with some nice little twists. Also they offer high cut boots with both leather and felt uppers.

Scott Sternberg’s Band of Outsiders recently came together with Sperry Top-Sider on some collaborative workings as part of their Spring 2008 collection.

Some interesting combinations of the two tone boat shoes were delivered, but the gem is in the Reconstructed Boat Shoe. Built with an inside-out contruction, and featuing rust proof silver metalk eyelets and an elastic top band make thing the “Reconstructed” a lace-less affair.
