Barker Clive Loafer

The advent of the Pitti street snap has made the loafer in all its various forms the new monkstrap…or the new brogue…or the new alternative to the old saddle shoe. Whatever its place in the footwear hierarchy it’s actually never gone away. If you’re looking for a laceless addition to your shoe collection this classic is hard to beat. This hi-shine model from Barker features traditional tassles and broguing as well as a hard wearing goodyear sole. Find them at Shoe Healer. -ld

Barker ‘Abingdon’ Oxford Shoe

Selectism - barker-oxford-shoe-01

We hate to be the ones to throw salt on every emerging trend, but we’ve never been fans of folks who adopt entire outfits. What makes that different from a costume? Random gripes aside, this shoe could easily be worn within that whole Italian style that everyone’s organically grown to love at the exact same time. This shoe’s so sharp, we’re scared we might get cut. (Edwards)

Barker Nairn Shoe

Selectism - barker-nairn-shoe

While Spring is close, it’s not exactly here yet. Which means we still have to be prepared for any random downpours, a good dainite sole is a wise choice. While we’re fully behind the fake trainer revival, we like our shoes as well. In fact, we’ve never understood the whole ‘to like one thing you have to hate the other’ mentality that’s rife in fashion. Everything in moderation. (Herring Shoes)

Barker ‘Aden’ Derby

Selectism - barker-aden-derby-01

It’s been a while since we’ve featured some of that made in England goodness, so here’s a refresher. As much as we love Church’s and Tricker’s, we’d be the first to admit that not everyone can afford to spend that much on shoes. Which is where a brand like Barker comes in. Their shoes are all made in Northampton and, as you can see, they have plenty of handsome shoes available. This derby has a longer toe, giving it a more elegant look than the usual rounded toe. Needless to say, this’ll look pretty – excuse our french – darn good with a well worn pair of jeans. (Edwards)

Barker for Herring Brown Suede Brogues

Selectism - barker-herring-suede-brogues-01

As we we’ve been saying, spring’s the time to start bringing out those leather soles again. And, if you’re brave, you could even take a risk with some suede. If you were to risk a suede shoe in spring, we’d rather it be the waxy kind. Not only does it kill off that ‘boxfresh’ look that can ruin your look, it’ll also start to look better the more beaten up it comes. If you’re into the details, these are goodyear welted – and all for the reasonable price of £175. (Herring Shoes)

There’s a couple of different colourways after the leap, but our favourite is up top.

Barker ‘Brando’ Brogue

11 November 2009, 16.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - barker-brando-brogue-01This shoe ticks all our boxes. A brogue shoe? Yep. Suede? It’s covered in it. Contrast sole and piping? Yes and yes. In fact, you couldn’t have made a more perfect shoe for us if you’d trawled through our archives and taken note of the most used keywords. The only surprise is that this isn’t done by one of the usual suspects. Instead old-school shoeists Barker have turned their hands to this style and, we have to say, they’ve done a great job. Another thing to note is the affordable £160 pricetag, so what are you waiting for? (Edwards)
