This is quite something. A linen cardigan with a neat little shawl collar from the wise folk at Beams Plus. The choice of linen over wool gives it a light, open weave, elevating it above the hoards of similar items on shelves at the moment. Created using the ‘Whole Knit’ technique, this just gets better when you hear that the whole piece is seamless. Two waist pockets, wooden buttons (a smaller one at the neck) and ribbed cuffs and sleeves, one of the most well executed pieces of knitwear we’ve seen in quite some time. Find it at Oi Polloi.

While it’s been a tough week for Clarks lover Vybz Kartel – he’ll be exchanging Clarks for cigarettes if convicted – but he should look on the bright side, his favourite shoe company has done a great collab! We’re sure that’s all the good news he needs right now. Clarks and Beams have created an exact replica of the original desert boot, making it in an orange so sharp it’ll slice a coconut. (End)

Our hopes for the future are simple. Cures for diseases, stability, peace and the availability of our favourite Japanese labels in our own backyard. Yes, the last one is a little shallow but imagine being able to get your hands on all those impossible goods with minimum fuss, nice thought right? As part of its Fall/Winter 2011 catalogue, Japanese retailer Beams highlights its upscale men’s collections with a nice fashion spread, entitled ‘Mr. David for Gentleman Wardrobe’. Beautiful knitwear, outerwear, footwear and suits from its many collections are presented as part of the spread.

These Beams+ socks over at Oi Polloi look too good to be hidden under your boots. We’re not suggesting you wear them on your hands or anything but a well timed bit of ankle exposure every now and then seems a must if you’re going to invest in such a impressive piece of Japanese Marl goodness. -ld

San Francisco’s Unionmade have recently taken stock of this 1970s inspired Beams+ jacket. The Mountain Parka lands as prime example of the Japanese labels’ understanding of US outdoors design, made from breathable 60/40 cotton/nylon in a rather fetching green/orange colourway. This light, all weather jacket has arrived as we head into autumn, though with the right layers would surely work throughout a harsh winter; intentionally produced a touch shorter than the original jackets of the 1970s, making it a more practical option for year-round wear. -jr
