Overade Foldable Bicycle Helmets

Designboom points us this work by Partrick Jouffret of Agency 360. Jourffret collaborated with engineer, Phillippe Arrount on concepts for these foldable bicycle helmets. The aim with the packaway helmet is to ease the number of cyclists who do not commute with one (as crazy as that sounds). Originally prototyped in 2010, the Overade helmets look to be headed to production this year.

Hufnagel Porteur City Bike

hufnagel 01 Hufnagel Porteur City Bike

Jordan Hufnagel likes bikes. He rides them a lot and when not spinning around Portland Oregon he’s designing and building them. His latest project is the Porteur/City bike, the result of a years work to create his perfect bike. As you can see it’s pretty good looking but we’re told it’s also a joy to ride. But seriously, look at it,  handsome right?

Anyway, this features “a custom fitted hand built frame, fork, stem and rack. All designed to have a clean look and intuitive function.” A lot of the bits n’ pieces that make up the frame were made in Jordan’s own house with much love care and attention no doubt. It’s a limited run and if you’re looking for a Christmas present to make everyone elses efforts seem pathetic then this is it. More over here.

Louis Vuitton Bicycle Polo Shoot

louis vuitton bicycle polo 2 Louis Vuitton Bicycle Polo Shoot

The mallet people… nuff said.

While the world of bicycle polo will shed a single tear as they see their sport being taken to new levels of luxury, others will appreciate the hand crafted work involved in fabricating the toe straps, mallet, and leather bar wraps used by Intersection Magazine in this shoot with Louis Vuitton. But they worked with bicycle polo players you say? Yes. Intersection was shown mood boards at Vuittons’ HQ. There they saw the early stages of what we have here. Custom straps and mallet, and even the chainring received special attention from Victorie. We like. (arkitip)

Selectism | Around the Web of #cycling #cyclocross #touring

01. Bishop Bikes Jinbok’s Cyclocross

“Chris Bishop recently assembled a rare set of tubes by Italy’s Gilco Design, creating a cyclocross frame for an LA customer. The unusual profile lends a distinctive touch to the frame, to which Chris has also applied his individual style. There’s a fascinating DNA woven into the molecules of those tubes, inextricably tied to the Italian passion for design and a dynasty of high quality bicycle frames. Angelo Columbo formed Columbus Tubi in 1919, focusing on the burgeoning bicycle sector. However, during the 1920s and 30s, Columbus was also a leading manufacturer of furniture in the ‘rationalist’ style, creating pieces by luminaries such as Breuer, Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe.” (cycleexif)

“Photos of the Vuelta a Colombia in the early 1960s, by Horacio Gil Ochoa.” Unbelievable men. (cyclinginquisition)

03. Conversations On the Coast (above)

“By way of example, allow us to introduce Nick Hand, who has spent some time on the road over the past few years, and has far more to show for it than just a beautifully broken-in B17. Between 2009 and 2010, for over four months and more than 6000 miles, he rode a leisurely tour of the coasts of Britain and Ireland. While making his journey, he sought out artisans and craftspeople living or working in his path, and spent some time taking photos of them at their work, as well recording what they had to say.” (brooksblog)

Ai Weiwei Forever Bicycle Installation in Taiwan

16 November 2011, 21.30 | Posted in Art, bike | No comments »

Selectism - taiwan-ai-weiwei

Curated lets us know about this important work by Ai Weiwei:

“What an incredible image this is. Created by China’s Ai Weiwei and titled Forever Bicycle, it is an impressive feat. Now if only he could attend his own show. This piece is part of the larger show fittingly called Absent. After his imprisonment, the Chinese government is keeping close tabs on the most prominent artist the country has produced in the recent past and is not allowing him to attend. Let’s just hope he continues to stay a free man (of sorts) and another unjust imprisonment is not in his future.”

Another great look from the 2011 New York City Rugby Tweed Run. Ralph Lauren does a solid job of bringing the tweed fans together with their old school, big wheel bicycles. Hoping we saw some old wood rim bikes as well. It looks to have been a very pleasant group ride through Manhattan. Via thinkfeel.tv.
