BMW i8 05 BMWi Electric Car Launch at Art Basel Miami

When BMW ventured into the electric car market you knew this wasn’t going to be a Herbie-with-a plug situation.

Alongside design authority Dwell, the German manufacturer hosted The Sustaethics Event at Art Basel Miami. ‘A celebration of sustainable design and the future of mobility’. The stars of the show were the incredible BMW i3 and i8 concept cars, 3 years in the making for Benoit Jacob, head designer of BMW i.

Set against a background of sustainability of environmental awareness, the venue featured a forested backdrop of 500 trees, designed by Miami-based architect Chad Oppenheim, which were part of a charity donation to local charity Treemendous. “The idea behind this project was to figure out a way to celebrate sustainability with BMW i and Dwell and to give something back to the city,”

Leather upholstery finished the interior nicely. A good look for all fans of the BMW line.

The New BMW 6 Series Coupe

2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe

We’re not sure if we love the interior or exterior more on the new BMW 6 Series Coupe. The  ”2 + 2 seating” in the new BMW line bring room into the sporty vehicle, as well as plenty of trunk room. In terms of design: “The design of the sports car is characterized by typical BMW coupe-like proportions and a both powerful and elegant design vocabulary. Contour lines and surface design are inspired by wave movement in flowing waters. Appropriately, the design of the dashboard resembles the styling of a power boot cockpit rising up before the driver and front seat passenger.” Coming soon…

bmw roadsters 75 Years of BMW Roadsters

Autoblog has a nice write-up on the 75 year legacy of BMW’s Roadster line. “We generally think of BMW as the maker of some of the world’s best sports sedans, but its put out some impressive roadsters over the years. Seventy-five years to be exact. The Bavarian auto manufacturer has been producing two-door open-seaters for three quarters of a century now, starting with 315/1 Sports model that was unveiled at the 1934 Berlin Motor Show followed by the more powerful 319/1.”

The new BMW Museum opened in Munich back on June 21, 2008. Completing a trio of brand-focused activities (with a factory tour and the BMW Welt), the museum sets new standard for automotive museums. The assembly line display (see images after the jump) is particularly well conceived. On the design front, responsibility goes to Atelier Breucknen. (via Curated).

Selectism - BMW Exhibition Design, Tokyo

Wallpaper* reports from the BMW Design Exhibition in Tokyo. "The 52nd floor of Mori Arts Center Gallery was the location of the latest BMW Art Car Exhibition, ‘Transparent Speed’, and for architect Jun Aoki who designed it the sky was the limit. ‘It’s a very fine idea to have cars floating high up in the sky’, said Aoki, thrilled to see his exhibition design of cars in clouds become a reality."
