Selectism - BMW Exhibition Design, Tokyo

Wallpaper* reports from the BMW Design Exhibition in Tokyo. "The 52nd floor of Mori Arts Center Gallery was the location of the latest BMW Art Car Exhibition, ‘Transparent Speed’, and for architect Jun Aoki who designed it the sky was the limit. ‘It’s a very fine idea to have cars floating high up in the sky’, said Aoki, thrilled to see his exhibition design of cars in clouds become a reality."

BMW Shape-Shifting Concept Car | GINA

selectism - bmw shape shifting car

BMW have unveiled their concept car GINA which rethinks the notion of an external hard shell. The body is made from a seamless polyurethane-coated Lycra fabric stretched over a moveable aluminum frame allowing the owner to change the car’s shape. Purely conceptual, there is no intention of this technology ever going into production.

GINA (Geometry and functions In ‘N’ Adaptions) has been in development for six years, the working model is built on a Z8 chassis and has four panels which take about two hours to put on. Via Core77.

An interesting concept and hopefully something that will see the light of day in some form. Because GINA actually doesn’t look bad at all. How safe this prototype is, is another question!

BMW’s Hydrogen Powered 7 Series

Selectism - BMW's Hydrogen Powered 7 Series

Holy smokes! A BMW that cleans the air while it drives. Revolutionary? Hells yes. The 7-series hydrogen powered vehicle was unveiled in Detroit last month and has green lovers smiling. As Inhabitant reports, "BMW’s carbon cutting sedan features a six-liter hydrogen combustion engine that delivers performance on par with its gas-guzzling counterpart. The vehicle takes a step beyond BMW’s efforts to create a hydrogen/gasoline hybrid with astonishing results: tests conducted by Argonne Laboratories show that the car’s emissions are so low that they are undetectable by standard emissions tests."

Though their are currently no plans for production, one can only expect that this is a major move in the right direction for BMW.
