Selectism - Gucci Boat Shoe Mid for Autumn 2010

Well, sometimes a good product just works. This Gucci boat shoe may scare off some of the indie boys due to the signature flag tag on the upper, but for those who appreciate a well made leather deck hopper, this one is for you. Sometimes, they just work. cncpts has them.

Selectism - wear-tear-04

We took a week off, but here’s the next feature in our guest blogger series. There’s no shortage of classic menswear based blogs out there right now, but for our money Start With Typewriters is one of the best. SWT’s approach is decidedly light-hearted, going against the po-faced grain that’s gaining popularity.

Another reason we like Start With Typewriters is their ‘wear and tear’ series, where they take a look at what happens when you’ve used a product for a year or so. So, with that in mind, we felt it only right to ask them to do a special wear and tear for us. Read their review of the Quoddy boat shoes after the leap.

Yuketen Athletic Sole Boat Shoes

Selectism - Yuketen Athletic Sole Boat Shoes

The snobs discuss this “athletic inspired” Yuketen boat shoe. While it almost calls for a self imposed moratorium on the boat/decker, I do like the use of the crepe. “This traditionally styled Boat Shoe is a true American classic, with the addition of an authentic crepe ‘athletic’ sole. Made from the same premium materials used in all Yuketen products, this Boat Shoe does real justice to the incredible materials and craftsmanship used in its manufacture.” End has them.

Timberland for Saks Fifth Avenue Boat Shoe

selectism - Timberland for Saks Fifth Avenue | Boat Shoe

Spring has just started to filter into the air, and with it a change of footwear is inevitable. Our (or mostly mine) love for boat shoes doesn’t waver in winter, but it certainly blooms in full come summer.

Timberland’s association with Saks Fifth Avenue began last fall with a colorful handsewn collection. The color and the technique remain as the relationship progresses, but this time the Timberland and Saks co-branded footwear falls on a boat shoe. They will go for $120 and come in colors like green, purple, orange, and navy.

No surprise here – they are available exclusively at Saks retail locations.

Atlantic Works 4 Eyelet Boat Shoe

Selectism - Atlantic Works 4 Eyelet Boat Shoe

When we caught a view of these at Beams in Tokyo recently, we knew that the bottom had not hit yet for the boat market. Beams teamed with Atlantic Works on this proper green boat shoe from Atlantic Works. The shoe is a solid build made with tough as nails leather (probably Horween). The distinct look of the sole is a selling point. (beams)
