Scott Schuman announced on Twitter recently that his successful Sartorialist book was heading for a second volume – coming this September 2012. Like volume one of Sartorialist, volume two will feature the very best of Schuman’s street photography - many of which have not been shown publicly (though some looks are popping up on his feed).
“One of the things that I’ve been working on over the past several months has been saving some of my favorite images, instead of posting on the blog, as exclusives for the next book. Since I’m addicted to sharing the best of what I find with you, it’s really killing me to save these images instead of posting them on the blog, but I think it will make the next book that much stronger!”

Powerhouse is set to publish Here We Are , a retrospective of the work of Greek photographer Panos Kokkinias from 1994-2007. Having studied fine art at Yale and the School of Visual Arts he went on to exhibit worldwide, his central, wide reaching subject matter being his “personal, ongoing obsession with existential subject matter”.
The book is divided into three sections. ‘Home’ 1994-95, a period which saw him putting himself in front of the lens during troubled times. ‘Interiors’ 1995-96, unusual spaces and ghostly figures. ‘Landscapes’ 1996-2011, nature, countryside and open spaces. Finally ‘Here we are’, a study of the human condition. Concerned with all things psychological, Panos’ work goes far beyond just his incredible skill as a photographer. Coming February 2012. Fans of music and the underground era genius of Robert Crumb may well love the new R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection book that brings together more than 450 four-color illustrations of the man’s album cover artwork. It started with his first cover in 1968 for Janis Joplin’s “Cheap Thrills” album (no doubt familiar to you). Crumb then went on to interpret art covers for artists new and old with a particular focus on the blues. “So remarkable were Crumb’s artistic interpretations of these old 78 rpm singles that the art itself proved influential in their rediscovery in the 1960s and 1970s. Including such classics as Truckin’ My Blues Away, Harmonica Blues, and Please Warm My Weiner, Crumb’s opus also features more recent covers done for CDs.”
R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection will be a perfect gift for music loves as well as those interested in Crumb’s incredible contribution to art.

There was a time when street photography had a very little to do with how crisp your Goodyear welted oxfords were or how cleverly you managed to accessorize your double breasted blue blazer. A whole raft of amazing photographers looked to capture characters, unguarded moments and odd looking folk carrying on with their everyday business. Vivian Maier was one of the best. She was in fact a nanny for most of her life; shooting was her hobby. During her life Maier took more than 100,000 photographs, all of which went unseen until discovered by historian John Maloof a few years ago. Vivian Maier: Street Photographer , coming November 22 on Powerhouse, draws together some of her best work from the 50’s and 60’s in all its duotone glory. Available from Amazon .
