If you’re lucky enough to live or be near Milan on April 20th, you’ll be interested to know that one of our favourite magazines, Apartamento, is hosting an event with the reference library. The events looks set to feature zines by artists, made to order furniture, workshops, vintage clothing and a whole number of activities that will be sure to make any non-Milan dwellers jealous. Although magazines are falling at an alarming rate, there are still new magazines being launched. Take File magazine for example. The London based magazine focuses on graphic design and art. The magazine’s USP is that it comes with an accompanying DVD and is designed to be watched and read at the same time. Usually this would be a turn-off to us – we’ve seen far too many magazines with tacked on DVD’s – but this time they’ve clearly been designed in tandem and it makes for a very interesting way of doing things. At a time when men’s general interest magazines are dying out, maybe it’s time for magazines to really focus on doing something unique.

Good news for Paul Smith fans – he’s decided to re-release his seminal book ‘You can find inspiration in everything (and if you can’t, look again)’. The book was previously only available at ridiculous prices (£200 and upwards) so it’s great to see that it’s available for a very reasonable £30. Celebrity Vinyl is a coffee table book by Tom Hamling. The hardback chronicles superstar’s attempts on vinyl and features a few surprises. Next to Eddie Murphy – I don’t care what the book says, ‘Party all the time’ is a classic – John Travolta, Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds also feature. Get it from Paul Smith’s UK online store.
