Freemans Sporting Club got together with old school American shoemaker Allen Edmonds to produce their take on the Bayfield Boot.

This one has a look of a lighter, more slimmed down boot however with Allen Edmunds you get something constructed to last.”Our Bayfield is designed for harsh weather with a mini lug sole for traction in rain & snow. All AE 360-degree welted shoes are so well-made that they can actually be returned to their original glory through Allen Edmonds exclusive Recrafting process.”

A nice piece of footwear that, in the unlikely event of malfunction, can be rebuilt and returned to life.

A quick note on some boots coming from the Amsterdam Shoe Company. This AW2012 preview comes a few weeks ahead of the men’s markets and tradeshows hitting Europe and beyond. Their Regency toe cap boot features black tumbled leather on the upper and tan leather for the lining. An awfully familiar but clean look. Nepenthes and Alfred Sargent have finally got it together. They’ve designed two pieces of footwear,  drawing together their considerable talents for one style each of shoe and boot.

A strong Scottish Ghillie feel with the laces, as Nepenthes describes; ‘The Huntsman group features a hybrid Norwegian and Goodyear welted construction, a unique premium leather upper and a rubber commando sole.’ We really like the slightly off beat choice of style. We’re all for sticking with the well known classics, but it’s nice to see a collaboration throw up something a little unexpected.

Anyone who finds the idea of luxury hiking boots off putting, look away now. All of you left, we’d like to introduce these Rider Ottawa Boots. Ron Rider’s company is a small family run operation based in Richmond Virginia. Produced  by Calzaturificio Cortina in Northern Italy with leathers sourced from American, Italian and French tanneries, this is a company focused on offering a bit more of a personal service.

This particular model was created with the help of  legendary Italian maker Borgioli and are available in hand finished cognac or espresso French calf. Norvegese construction, this comes with a lightweight Vibram sole. They may look pretty but these can with stand a bit of hardcore walking. Leather Soul has them.

Wolverine 1000 Mile and New York’s Leffot have teamed up to auction off a pair of their collaborative Wolverine 721 LTD Boots. The auction proceeds benefit the GlobalGiving project helping orphans in Japan rebuild after the tragic tsunami this past March 2011. The boot is based on an archival pattern from the Wolverine collection and is made from Horween shell cordovan leather. 1,000, hand-numbered pairs are being produced; the auction is for #0001.

Bidding has begun on eBay for the auction. We’re up to $610 at the moment. A very worthy cause.

Today, we head over to Europe for a taste of Italy through the eyes of Marco Ravanetti, the editor of one of our favorite sites, Men’s Reveire. We asked him to pick eight of his favorite items for the holidays; goods that could serve as gifts for just about anyone. We of course get a very discreet list what can only be seen as a very considered offering.

As Mr. Ravanetti tell us, “Yes, I do love gifts. A lot, although I don’t receive them very often. Due to this, eight, is a very tight number, therefore, I hope Jeff will allow me to cheat just a tiny bit.” Yes, sir, you can cheat.

Richmond VA’s Need Supply works over a pair of Indy boots with New England’s Alden shoe company. Since we’re all familiar with the quality of Alden (no questions there) it all comes down to the colorway. This one is a win. the Tan Dakota upper, all around Goodyear welt construction with white stitching looks great against the brown laces as well. The eyelets also get some special treatment.
