Bruiser Bow Tie by Forage

One of a Kind offers up a handful of these made-by-hand bow ties from Forage.”The Forage duo sourced 4 ½ yards of this 1940s fabric—just enough to make 20 ties—while antiquing in Pennsylvania, and they even screened the packaging and letterpressed the tags by hand. The just-left-of-center print looks great with a basic white shirt, a gentlemanly striped oxford.” Available — oh bummer. They’re sold out. Well, check out Forage ties for other options over on etsy.

Selectism - Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal Bow Tie

MMM is one of the few houses that continues to progress in a manner which never puzzles the few who follow the line. It is important to note that some develop product for the masses while a unique few develop products for you and I. “Margiela’s Artisanal pieces are made from old and new fabrics, objects and accessories – all reworked entirely by hand. Each piece is unique and can appear aged or distressed due to the nature of the materials sourced. Margiela offers a lifetime guarantee for each piece, including repair or replacement of defective parts.” Available now from Oki-ni.

Those that hate bow-ties will already have changed sites by now, so there’s no need to address them. Like all SS10 pieces, expect this to drop in January.

YMC Bow Tie Chambray Shirt

selectism - ymc-bowtie-chambray-shirt-01

What’s with high street retailers spelling chambray with an e? It’s not technically wrong, but the only folks who seem to do it are Topman and ASOS. It’s almost as annoying as people referring to companies in the singular instead of plural.

Remember bow ties? They were supposed to be the next big thing in neckwear, but they’ve ended up as one of those niche trends. If you’re a bow-tie wearer who’s managed to pull them off without looking affected, then you’ll like this YMC chambray shirt complete with attached bow tie. Our only complaint is that the bow tie itself looks a little too perfect. How are we gonna pretend we did it ourselves when it’s done up like that? (ASOS)

The song remains the same, detailed shots after that leap of faith.

Brooklyn Circus Reversible Bowties

selectism - brooklyn-circus-bowtie-01

We’re not into posting items that only a certain part of the world can get their hands on – unless they’re Japanese – but we had to post up these Brooklyn Circus reversible bow ties. They’re perfect for the guy who’s learnt how to tie a bow tie – by now that should be all of you – and wants to step his game up with a versatile piece.

For what it’s worth, their blog is the best one done by a retail outlet yet – they take great pictures, show off inspirational ways to wear their clothes and update regularly – it’s all we could ask for in a blog. No word on  the pricing yet, but we’ll get on it.

Check our the other colourway after the leap.

etro bow tie Etro Bow Tie

Now that we’ve shown you how to tie a bow tie, it’s only fair we show you some bow ties for you to practice your skills on. The biggest problem with bow ties is that they can look a little try hard, especially next to the relatively easy going tie. The easiest way to combat this would be to get a standout bow tie like this Etro one and tone down the rest of your outfit. Get it from The Corner.

If you were an early adopter of the bow tie trend, you may be looking to step your game up. This Peckham Rye bow tie should satisfy those who’ve already grown bored of plain colours. Band of Outsiders Bow Tie

Selectism - Band of Outsiders Bow Tie

It’s easy to dismiss trends, but some are worth picking up on. The tricky one for this season (and seasons to come, judging from the use of it on the catwalk) is the bow tie. Get it right and you’ll look great, get it wrong and you’ll look like you’re in costume. That’s why this Band of Outsiders bow tie is so good. Unlike those bow ties that Tucker Carlson wears, this is a subtler bow and therefore lends itself easily to a modern outfit. Get it at Eluxury.
