Mark McNairy for Standard (Atlanta) – Brogue Boots

07 February 2012, 23.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

MXS 1 Mark McNairy for Standard (Atlanta) Brogue Boots
Brogue boots have been practically growing on trees the past few months. This is less a complaint than an observation, and this latest ornamental oddity comes from a tête-a-tête between debonair designer Mark McNairy and Atlanta boutique, Standard.

And an odd trio it is, though in the stop-and-take-a-loving-longer-look way. Two of them walk on leather soles—one of them tan grain leather with red wool flannel and the other brown grain with hunter green—and the third comes in black grain with navy cloth and moves under you on a durable pillow of white Vibram Cristy.

This latter option might be our favorite, thanks to the contrast between the dark leather and the gleaming sole and the more understated upper of black and dark blue. The red and green offerings are tight, no doubt, but could verge on being costume-y. Still, big ups to McNairy and Standard for making something that’s become commonplace look not so common at all.

Tricker’s for End Clothing Burnished Toe Cap Shoe & Boot

30 January 2012, 17.00 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

End Clothing-Trickers-02

End Clothing return with more Tricker’s action. The Burnished toe cap brogue and boot for the country gent in need of something smart. The shoe, made on a 4444 last, is built on a Dainite sole unit and features the signature End heel pull tab. The boot is created on a 4497s last which they tell us is a rarity for Trickers, with the pattern based on the Stow model and again complete with Dainite sole and heel tab. A couple of impressive footwear options from the Newcastle store.

nonnative Spring/Summer 2012 Footwear

Nonnative Spring Summer 2012 Footwear Collection 08 540x388 nonnative Spring/Summer 2012 Footwear

nonnative offers some interesting footwear for Spring/Summer. Shoe Buff tells us “The brand brings ten new models in which six of them come with a Gore-Tex interior in collaboration with Regal ; Dweller Shoes Wing-Tip, Deck Shoe, Loafer, Plain Toe and Cap Toe.”

The more beach friendly espadrilles might win round those who still find this particular style of shoe objectionable, the slightly wider fit make them appear more moccasin like, espcially invarious shades of suede. A nice selection ranging from smart to run-around.

It’d be lazy to bring up Elvis but *puts on ‘blue suede shoes’ and yells green over the parts where he says blue* it’s pretty apt right now. It’s rare we see anything entering stores in December, it being the end of the season and all. Despite this, a heap of McNairy custom makeups just come into End – with these green brogues being the pick of the bunch.

Alfred Sargent ‘Harrold’ Country Brogue

Selectism - alfred-sargent-harrold-country-brogue-01

Recently someone said that we should never talk about mens dress shoes again (people take negative opinions about their favourite shoe very seriously). So we listened to their thoughts, took them onboard and thought ‘hey, why don’t we do an entire morning dedicated to shoes? They’ll love that!’ We’ll be the first to admit it, posting Alfred Sargent shoes is practically cheating. But hey, start here and then we can swiftly move from here into our comfort zone of kerrazy fashun shoes. This one’s a new style from the AS Exclusive range named after a character from Neighbours*.

So these are….interesting. We like experiments as much as the next man but this one has ended up more frankenstein than intended. That said, we’d hate to be kicked by someone who had these on. (Luisaviaroma)

Mark McNairy Stone Suede Brogues

Selectism - mcnairy-suede-longwing-brogues-01

Kick in the door waving the four four with these McNairy brogues. We’re gonna be outright stubborn and say we still prefer the traditional UK brogue over the long wing, but we can appreciate the beauty in both of them. With a suede upper and red brick sole, this is a shoe best saved for those days when rain is an impossibility. Otherwise you’ll be doing your best Antonio Daniels guarding Allen Iverson impression.
