As much as we enjoy those folk soundtracked, atmospheric, slow fade factory tours, sometimes it’s nice just to be shown around a place and hear ‘that’s where we keep the sewing machines, this is how we make our goods.’ This straightforward  tour, produced by Style Ledger and brought to us via OEN, takes us around tailor Martin Greenfield’s Brooklyn premises. Informative, simple, an interesting insight behind the scenes with some accompanying chatter from the man himself.

Photographer Jennifer Causey visits building and design company hOmE. The Makers series aims to document the work and people behind artisan crafts based in and around Brooklyn.  Evan and Oliver Haslegrave started hOmE with their sisters, building furniture and fixings from their finds at markets and salvage yards. Reusing and reinventing unwanted goods, they’ve kitted out the likes of East Village restaurant Goat Town, Paulie Gees and Greenpoint’s Manhattan Inn.

Selectism Columnist, Kyle Hackett, puts forth the word on Monday’s opening of Smith + Butler in Brooklyn. Located on the corner that it is named after in Brooklyn, the shop looks to please the style of the urban man looking for the classic brands that made this country what it is, while casually courting local start-up outfits who bring product to complement the latter. Expect Woolrich, A.P.C., Wrangler, more.

More images from the Smith + Butler shop (opening Monday, Nov. 17th) after the jump.

WWD reports that British designer, Paul Smith will be opening his first "freestanding" boutique in the the U.S. in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn later this month, which will sell "marked down items." "In doing so, Smith will be the first major designer to set up an outpost in the hipster-laden neighborhood known for its indie spirit, offbeat boutiques and vintage stores. The ‘fresh’ retail neighborhood appealed to  the company, a Paul Smith spokesman said Tuesday. It is also only one subway stop outside of Manhattan."

The Paul Smith Store will be located at 280 Grand Street.
