Selectism - Another Look at the Brooks Oxford Roll Up Raincoat

Here’s a second look at the Brooks Oxford Roll-up Raincoat we covered back at BBB this Summer – they call it a rain cape. “The cape is produced in Manchester and is a combination  of waxed cotton with Dashing Tweed accents.  Dashing Tweed is a reflective tweed designed in Savile Row and produced in Scotland.” Nicely done and beautiful.

Selectism - Brooks "Colt" Bicycle Saddles Return in Spring 2011

Brooks Saddles of England should be familiar to most of our readers at this point. Brooks is one of those “heritage” brands which falls closer to the cycling world than fashion, but that does not hinder the brand from showcasing their leather cycling accessories at Bread & Butter Berlin. We’ll highlight their Spring 2011 bags shortly, but for the moment, may I introduce to you the “Colt” saddle from the Brooks archive.

The “Colt” which originally appeared in the Brooks catalog back in the 70’s returns for Spring in some interesting colors. While we’re  told that the tanning processing of colors for the “Colt” were not exactly what they expected (except for the mustard shade), Brooks was still happily surprised with the results to put them on the market. The saddle’s shape is reminiscent of those Italo favorites and features hand stamped rivets.

Selectism - Brooks Spring Saddle Seat Stools

I do not think we’ve ever had a post title with 4 “S” words in a row. Another INTERBIKE find were these Brooks Spring Saddle seats stools – at the Brooks booth. They’re not for sale but we’re sure you can cook them up yourselves with some local builders. Most important of all is that they’re a comfortable custom option for your bar. Drink beer.

Selectism - Brooks Barbican Messenger Bag in Leather

This is a unique one. At INTERBIKE, we spent some time with the fine folks at Brooks. Famous for the saddles, which we have covered here and ridden for years, Brooks also makes a slew of accessories ranging from toe straps and bags. Their Barbican Messenger has been in the companies line since the early days, but at the show, they previewed a varity of one off version of the bag in premium leathers.

With a price point around 1000$US, the special Brooks Barbican Messenger Bags are individual one of a kind productions made from various premium leathers in Italy and is pure butter. The pockets under the flap being made with differently coloured leather. The white model shown above features kangaroo leather under the flap.

Brooks takes their best practice approach to the world of baskets. And why not? After you run the show for generations in the world of leather saddles, you may as well attempt another product or two. Take their Hoxton Wire Basket for instance. Made of a metal structure, wooden base and a leather grip, the Hoxton is a reasonably price extension to your bike which turns it into a commuting dream.

Brooks Saddle Company of England has clearly established itself worldwide as one of the finest leather saddle manufacturers. They tend to stay low profile though when it comes to sponsorship, but when they do put their names behind events, it usually comes with some special perks. As part of their celebration of various courier and bicycle polo events worldwide, Brooks has issued a set of limited edition colored saddles for their Swift and Team Pro models in runs of 250 units.

Events in Boston, London, Seattle, Philadelphia, and Berlin are celebrated in blue, mustard, red, and mandarin orange. Simply beautiful. (joshspear)

England’s finest (and maybe the world) leather saddle company offer some excellent gifts for the cyclists in your life. Our favorite being the Brooks Tool Roll Bag with its assortment of levers, spanners, allen wrenches (metric), screwdrivers, and more. Housed beautifully in either brown, honey, or black, the leather tool bag has not changed much since it first hit the market in 1914. Find it at all finer bicycle shops or Oi Polloi.
