Specializing in bespoke footwear (and also offering a quality range of ready to wear), the Foster & Son firm rounds out its wears with small leather goods and bags. We see a fair few leather trimmed canvas pieces in our daily lives, and this stands out (for me) in incorporating a steel farm on the lines of a Gladstone bag. The function of this addition is a wider opening “for ease of stowage.” Of course, there’s nothing new or groundbreaking about the design, after all Foster & Son have been in business since 1840 and the traditional is simply the way things are done at the Jermyn Street outpost.

We featured this before but now the sales are in full flow it’s time to take a closer look. We hate to talk about the weather all the time (actually as an Englishman it’s my favourite topic) but in a rainy summer like this, you’ll need a shoe material that can deal with a bit of rain. We love us some suede, but it can’t handle rain. Canvas can. It may soak your feet a little, but it’ll never get ruined completely by it. So if you need a shoe that’ll hold up in the rain as well as look good all year round, vote canvas. (ASOS)

Italy’s Volta Footwear is showing at Bread & Butter Berlin this week. They debut a new line of canvas based shoes available in a variety of colors and silhouettes. Our HS editor is awfully fond of the white colored models which have a slightly “distressed” look due to the canvas material (seen above). Well done.

There’s no shortage of good canvas trainers out there at the moment – everyone from Feiyue to Springcourt have their own version. But we don’t think we’ve seen any quite as clean as these Adidas ones. If the likes of Superga and Springcourt are too fancy for you, these should be right up your alley. Add in the fact that they’re only £45 and you’ve really got no excuse not to buy a pair. Get these from End.

Mismo, the Danish makers of fine luggage, are bringing out a new colourway of their canvas collection. Instead of changing the whole collection every season, Mismo have sensibly decided to add different colourways that compliment the existing collection. The new colourway is called curry and the entire collection, from holdall to laptop sleeve, will be available in this colour. The collection will be dropping at Oki-Ni around the end of July.

Aside from being a great magazine, Men’s Non-No also have an online store (although ordering from it is still tricky for anyone in the western hemisphere). Among the pieces in the store is this Voyage by Wastetwice for The Superior Labour canvas tote bag. The canvas used is pretty thick and the handles and straps are leather so this piece is built to last. Get on your proxy or get it from Men’s Non-No.

This season has definitely seen a comeback for the plan oxford shoe and while that’s great and all, that does leave very little space for those for want to be just a little bit more original with their smart footwear. This YMC Canvas and Leather shoe give a little quirk as they keep the original leather upper whilst changing the rest to canvas. While we have included both colours, the tan colourway does seem to look that much better than the black one. Get it from YMC’s store.

We present you the Surface 2 Air Spring/Summer 2008 footwear collection. The Parisian label has expanded their styles this season and offers 7 different models in their new collection, including slip-ons, canvas and leather sneakers as well as lace-ups. Some are kept simple and are interesting because of the material, others come with graphic prints.

Last year we saw a Lucien Pellat-Finet x Vans collaboration. In his new Spring/Summer 2008 collection the cashmere expert presents canvas sneakers, very similar in style to Converse All Stars. Both the low-top and high-top sneaker come in a black and white colorway and feature the usual symbols that the designer likes to play with. The low ones only feature them as a print, the high-tops feature both a print and also the matching pins. Keep your eyes open for these to drop!

Among the latest releases by Converse are these Jack Purcell Canvas styles. The mix of premium brown leather and beige or respectively khaki canvas makes a perfect match and an overall nice sneaker. It definitely has a more classic look and feel, almost like an upper class sneaker from along time ago.
