As a previous post illustrated, the costumes in Boardwalk Empire are a thing of wonder. We were rather concerned though that this might turn into some awful 1930s trend spawning lots of badly dressed version of Al Capone. Well, we’re not ready to do a U-turn just yet but we might just make a concession with this newsboy cap. Haversack come good again with this panelled hat over at Takanna, 100% cotton with front popper, this is probably the only piece of headwear you can legitimately wear at a jaunty angle.

Spellbound continue their good work in the denim sector with this work cap. Lots of nice detail with the peak stitching and hook fastening. Inspired by headwear of old, imagine yourself driving a train or toiling in the fields with this one. We’d recommend ignoring the price tag though, might spoil the working man illusion a little. Oi Polloi has it.

Banger. A proper hunting cap in a fresh “aloha” floral print and ready for wear from NEXUSVII.  A mesh liner keeps it breathable and the vintage floral fabric keeps it real. Outside of the usual Asian shops, it would seem that colette may carry it. Call them and don’t fear their French. (hb)

This is a U.S.A made knit cap from Patrik Ervell. I initally balked at the price until I noted it was made from Alpaca. Well they say you should not cycle in denim jeans. Something about the sweat and breathability. I wonder if the same is true for your head? Either way this is a fine example of a cycling hat. Properly sewn and beatiful. Japanese made as well. Utility Coop has them.

For those in need of a traditional flat cap, check out this Barbour 6 panel waxed variant. There’s not much to say on Barbour in terms of quality. Try finding one of their jackets on Ebay for a deal. It’s tough. “As an official outfitter of the British monarchy, the company is steeped in British history and tradition. Known especially for their durable, weatherproof wax-cotton jackets…” But you knew this. A wonderful cap. (glory)
