Michael Kluver’s design studio hews to what he calls “journalistic design,” which involves using “words, imagery and three-dimensional work” to comment on the world. Here, he reports on the way we sit with the re-imagining of four iconic chairs by Eames, Rietveld, Brewer and Mackintosh. The collection is called “Just Chairs,” and the cheekiness doesn’t stop there, for you see, each design has been wrestled back into the parameters of the most basic chair form imaginable. Each one is the same height, width, depth and angle—a design trick Kluver hopes will demystify the past and ask “important questions with regards to the future.”

So will we go back to sitting in rigid upright seats? Impossible to say. One thing is for certain, however, we won’t be sitting in any of these. The only things for sale here are 100 sets of prints of illustrations of the chairs; perfect for framing and admiring from a comfortable spot on your couch. (nalden)

Fubiz lets us know about these ‘Happy Material’ chairs from Pini Leibovich. The Israeli design studio have used several materials (the one above is made from balloons) that fit into the loose description of happy and made some intriguing looking chairs from them. Try this at home if you like. However don’t complain when you find it takes a while.

Great news are coming from interior brand Kartell. The iconic 4801 armchair, originally designed by Joe Colombo is being re-issued. Originally released in 1965 in plywood, the chair returns in plastic this time. At the time they were not able to produce the chair in plastic. Kartell is known for their plastic design objects, so the chair is a great fit. This time around the chair comes priced at about $2,000 USD.

Herman Miller has released a new limited Asia edition of the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. This version comes in all black, featuring black plywood framing and black premium leather. The chair is delivered along with a limited edition vintage poster of the chair. Both the framed print and the chair are limited to 100 pieces.

Design Milk turns us onto the Favn chair, designed by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen. Hayon said that “I wanted the sofa to be based on a shell. A shell being hard on the outside, soft and welcoming on the inside”. We’re pretty sure it’s achieved that, either way it’s a good looking sofa.
