Chris Milliman “Gym Rat”

selectism - Chris Milliman "Gym Rat"

Complementing his recent “Hickory” project, Chris Milliman turns his attention away from rural hoops and to the urban game in his latest series, entitled “Gym Rat.” The photos land just as March Madness is heating up, and we’re highlighting it today as the second week of the NCAAs tips off. Milliman’s sense of personality – expressed through both people and space – is apparent throughout.

Head to Curated to see all of “Gym Rat.”

Curated turns us onto this news:

“Chris Milliman’s latest project, Hickory, finds the prolific sporting photographer following his childhood passion of basketball. His is the vision of rural New England ballers, local high school students playing for the photographers camera and reflecting the root glory of the game.”

selectism - Chris Milliman "Same Same, But Different"

Our man Chris Milliman has a special knack for capturing the social side of sport. His latest collection of photographs compares and contrasts the race seen of Roubaix, France, with the BMX culture of Northern California.

Curated has the full story.

selectism - Photography | Chris Milliman "Shoes"

Our friend Chris Milliman has a knack for capturing the American scene. Last Winter, he immersed himself in Snowmobiling and Ice Fishing… pastimes often ignored but undeniably indicative of a certain American spirit. This Summer, Milliman turned his lens to horse shoes, for a project simply titled Shoes. The resulting photographs document a rarely (and I say this without irony) viewed pastime. Honest in their composition, Milliman’s images reveal a world of friendly, if not intense, competition.

More from Shoes after the jump.

Milliman for Freeman Transport “Home & Away”

YouTube Preview Image

“Through two distinct shoots, and over a period of three months, photographer Chris Milliman worked with Freeman Transport to document daily life of co-founder Benjamin Ferencz. At home in Missoula, MT, Milliman follows Ferencz through his routine. Picking up mail. Answering buisness calls. And, of course, riding his bike. Home and Away gives visual record to the Freeman idea. A lifestyle led by the bicycle and an open sense of adventure – whether that be in culture, food, or purely in the possibilities presented through travel…”

Of course, art direction and design was done by  Ferecnz’s The Design Cooperative. 500 newsprint books have been produced. They’re available now direct from Freeman Transport.

Chris Milliman “Four-Stroke and Two”

selectism - Chris Milliman "Four-Stroke and Two"

Recently featured, photographer Chris Milliman’s latest work Four-Stroke and Two details the lively world of snowmobile racing. Yes, the season’s are changing, but we figured “to hell with it” let’s give one last salute to winter. The series will debut fully in 2011.

Milliman’s statement about the work -

Four-Stroke and Two is a study in the nature of parallel worlds. You can find these scenes all over, the participants all in. Right here, custom built super-charged snowmobiles rocketing to 145 mph in under 5 seconds. Preceded by hours and hours in the garage, bloody knuckles, frost bite, and ear plugs. But it could be anything and it’s running along next to us, so take a different line and here’s what you see.

A continued preview of Four-Stroke and Two after the jump.
