Selectism returned to London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012, camera in hand, to capture goings on beyond the catwalk.

Men’s Day isn’t Men’s day without a visit to the Installations. For the past few seasons NEWGEN MEN & Fashion East have brought together a selection of designers to display their wares in a Somerset House exhibition space. Allowing new and more established brands to showcase their work in a more informal setting and visitors to get close-up with displays, the event has become an important part of the British Fashion Council’s efforts to raise the profile of homegrown designers.

This year’s list included; Bunney, Christopher Raeburn, Sibling, Christopher O’Brien, Christopher Shannon, Dr. Noki’s – NHS, Kit Neale, Lee Roach, LF Markey, Marwood, Oscar Quiroz, Paw Hansen, Sebastian Tarek, T. Lipop, Tom Ryling and William Richard Green.

A look at new work by designer, Christopher Raeburn for Victorinox as seen at Bread & Butter Berlin in January 2012. The jackets look to take on the modern feel of the young menswear designer. Look for more detailed looks shortly.

There are some interesting points to mention regarding the sentry scarf from the Christopher Raeburn for Victorinox. First, they were made in the same workshop that Karl Elsener, founder of Victorinox made the first Swiss Army Knife. A total of 100 scarves were produced and most important, they are all made from remnant Swiss Army blanket materials - over-dyed to give them their distinct look. Ron Herman has them.

Style brings us runway looks from the Christopher Raeburn collection for Spring 2012… and they love it. “All of that activity made it easy to distract from the fact that Raeburn continues to impress as he expands his label. Though his emphasis is still on sharp-looking outerwear, Raeburn has stepped a toe into ready-to-wear, introducing jersey separates for men and women made from an organic hemp blend produced in England. These included long, heather tees slashed through with bolts of primary color and sharp-looking cargo sweats.”

As Kanye didn’t say, ‘That ish Rae. burn’. We’ve featured a couple of Raeburn summer jackets before but this is the first time we’ve seen Raeburn’s Victorinox collaboration in stores. First off, what we like about this coat: the way it looks. WHat we don’t like: the price. It’s that simple. There’s more details than you can shake a detail stick at – they exist, don’t ask us where to find them – but at nearly a grand, we don’t blame anyone if it’s outside of their pay bracket. (Oki-Ni)

Functional, intelligent and meticulous, Christopher Raeburn is re-appropriating the notion of re-appropriation to create sustainable, ethical designs that consistently manage to push the envelope. We caught up with him to find out more about the label and also took some snaps of him and his studio.

“In an inspired move, Swiss luxe alpine wear brand… Victorinox have hired Brit designer Christopher Raeburn to design a capsule collection for Autumn Winter 2011. Consisting of only eight pieces… the young London creative has managed to merge his forward thinking design aesthetic with the heritage and tradition of the 127 year old brand. ‘Remade in Switzerland’ is the result of Raeburn travelling to Victorinox’s home country to go through an extensive number of army surplus stores in Ibach, the birthplace of Victorinox founder Karl Elsener.”

We’ve always been partial to a crazy looking jacket and this Chris Raeburn piece fits the bill. It’s a spring jacket so we wouldn’t recommend wearing it just yet, it’ll look great when the weather starts letting up. (LN-CC)
