iPhone Alarm Clocks

Selectism - iphone-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto this:

“Now available for pre-order from Areaware are some pretty amazing iPhone ready alarm clocks.

Remember those faux wood grain GE flip clocks that sat on every bedside table? These humble clocks were made obsolete by fancy LED clocks and more recently by cell phones. Jonas Damon’s Alarm Dock allows your iPhone to read as an “alarm clock”, with an opening at back for routing your power supply. Augmented by a flip clock app, this dock returns meaningful form to the sliver of a device that will wake you up.

Designed by Jonas Damon and made of beech wood.”

BRAUN Watches and Clocks Return

Some excellent news for fans of classic BRAUN utilitarian items. It looks as though BRAUN watches and alarm clocks are coming back to U.S. shores. Some notes from the press release give a bit more info: “Braun’s decision to re-issue its collection, including some of the LCD watches from the 1970s, met with the approval of Dietrich Lubs, co-designer with Dieter Rams. Lubs credits the watches’ independent and functionally-oriented designs for the continued relevance of the Braun timepiece collection, about thirty years after its initial introduction.” Various styles available now from Amazon BRAUN Watches and Clocks Return.

More as we get it. For now, enjoy these looks after the click.

Neest Kakudo Wall Clock

Selectism - neest-kakudo-wall-clock-01

We’ve always wondered how design magus talk about things like this. Do they talk about ‘clean lines’ or minimalism? Or do they just say it looks nice? We veer towards the second option. Why use twenty words when you could say it in ten? In the words of the Wu, make half long, twice strong. (neest)

McIntosh MCLK12 Wall Clock

10 January 2011, 19.00 | Posted in Design, tools | 1 comment »

McIntosh MCLK12 Wall Clock

McIntosh is one of those long trusted audio component companies still producing their goods in the U.S.A (sure many others do as well but McIntosh has been there for the long haul). Their components are pricey and always will be – both new and used. Now, they bring the blue glow of their displays to a wall clock. “The result is the MCLK12 wall clock, which really looks like you simply hacked the front off a Mac power amp, and stuck it on the wall. The black glass front panel and large meters are still there, but instead of showing how many watts you’re cranking, the left meter shows the hours while the right meter gives you the minutes.” #sonasty (dvice)

Recycled Bicycle Wheel Clock

Selectism - Recycled Bicycle Wheel Clock

This recycled bicycle wheel clock may be of interest to some of our rider readers. “This clock was made from a recycled aluminum bike wheel. The wheel mounts directly to the wall through the hub using a hollow wall anchor and gives the illusion that it is floating off the wall. The clock movement is a high torque German quartz movement and is attached to a set of rear cassette gears to conceal the movement. The movement is attached to the wheel by hanging it off of a screw coming out of the hub, and runs on 1 AA battery, included.” Find it now 119$US.
