Mjolk for Lens hooded Pea Coat

01 December 2009, 11.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - mjolk-lens-hooded-pea-coat

With January sales looming, we can’t fully recommend buying full price purchases. Why bother when it’ll all be half price in a couple of weeks? But, with that being said, there are usually a few pieces that run the risk of selling out before the sale hits – and everyone’s got at least one non-buyers remorse story to tell.

Given the attractive pricing (£100 at the time of asking) this could easily turn into another of those ‘I ummed and aahed for too long’ tales for anyone too hesitant to pull the trigger. (Topman)

Selectism - The Viridi-Anne Unfinished Coat

Fan of garments with an “unfinished” treatment will enjoy this overcoat from Viridi-anne. The Viridi-anne coat comes with a removable vest in grey cotton and details in the knitted cuffs, constructed sleeves,  several zip pockets and a big hood. At the bottom the jacket you’ll find an unfinished hem line. Leave it as is or take it in as necessary. Made in Japan. (fever)

Factotum Check Coat

17 November 2009, 16.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - factotum-coat-01

Forgive us for teasing, but here’s another Japanese piece for you. And to make it worse, this one is only sold through stores – which means you’ll have to either know someone in Japan or get your proxy on. As for the coat itself, what more can we say? It’s a great, purdy, medium weight coat for fall and winter and it’s great for a bit of check clashing (which you really should be doing if you’re gonna wear checks this season). (Mindtrive)

Alternative colourways after that leap.

Mackintosh ‘Duncan’ Coat

11 November 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

selectism - mackintosh-duncan-coat

Whilst everyone (and we mean everyone) is making their online store at the moment, we reserve our props for those who are adding a nice twist. Mackintosh are one such company, allowing anybody to make customized versions of their coats. The options are thin on the ground – you can only adjust the lining and collar – but it’s a nice addition nonetheless. Take a gander at two of our creations, the ‘fawn’ and navy colour both go extremely well with the Alpaca collar, if we say so ourselves. Make your own mack over at Mackintosh.

Mountain Research Belted Coat

Selectism - Mountain Research Belted Coat

More items from the Mountain Research collection. This belted coat is cut from melton wool and features two distinct leather strapping for closure placed high up on the chest. This closure allows for the wearer to get some leg room for a nice jog while skirting the law. A great look. (arks)

COS Spring/Summer 2010 Duffle Coat

29 October 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 5 comments »

selectism - cos-spring-2010-duffel-coat

Yes, this is a duffle (according to COS anyway). We’d call this a parka ourselves, but that’s just the pedant in us. Like COS’s SS09 car coat, this’d make a great summer weight jacket and you could wear it well into autumn (like we’re doing with the car coat). If we had to change anything it’d be the buttons – navy buttons on a navy coat scream laziness to us. That aside, it’s a great coat and changing buttons shouldn’t cost more than ten of whatever currency you use (yen excluded).

After the jump we’ve featured a nice looking double breasted blazer – and there’s prizes on guessing what we’d change on that either. These, along with the SS10 collection will be in COS stores from January.

Lounge Lizard Parka

selectism - lounge-lizard-parka

Has anyone noticed that duffles are this year’s pea coat? We’ve already seen them around on several reputable fellas. Because we always like being ahead of the curve, we’re only gonna be posting up duffles with a twist. Like this parka/duffle hybrid. While the twists in this are minimal, the fur hood (real fur, we might add) is enough to make this coat stand out from the duffle-coated herds. As always with Japanese pieces, you’ll have to get your proxy on. (Mindtrive)

Corona Seamen’s Coat

Selectism - Corona Seamen's Coat

A simple and to the point seaman’s coat from Corona found over on Noa’s. It comes dyed in natural indigo and has a flavor that works in town or on the shore. The over closure on the neck as a nice touch to this piece. A heavy duty and proper fit from Corona.

Bless Navy Dress Coat

26 October 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - bless-dress-coatFor us, fashion can be described by one phrase – ‘never say never’. We’d thought we’d never wear corduroy – we we wrong. We thought we’d given up on backpacks – we were wrong. We thought we’d never see a wearable dip dye mac – we were kinda wrong. We haven’t seen many dip-dye macs in our time, but this has to be top of the (very short) list. In fact, we’d recommend wearing this piece with some tan cords and a good looking backpack. Just remember to say never to bumbags. (Ashtray)

APC Herringbone Hooded Parka

21 October 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | 3 comments »

selectism - apc-herringbone-parka-01

Love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny that Jean Touitou does make some great pieces. We’re all about parka’s here at SL – they’re perfect for those days when you don’t need to fix up, look sharp. Add in some herringbone (one of our favourite materials this winter) and you’ve got a winner. We know it looks a little plain, but just go crazy with the rest of your outfit and everyone will still know that you’re a guy who cares about how he looks. (End)

Detailed images are after the leap.
