There was a preview of Coming Soon’s AW10 collection earlier this year, but here’s a look at the full collection. This season sees Yohji Yamamoto’s youth-orientated line focus on a range of sharper pieces, with herringbone suiting making an appearance throughout the collection. There’s also the usual denim and the ongoing collaboration between CS and SL columnists Generic Surplus.

Here’s another couple of drops from Yohji Yamamoto’s Coming Soon. First up is the video displaying his SS10 collection (above). This is positively archaic by interwebz standards but it’s always enjoyable seeing how the clothes work on a moving body. It also gives us a nice excuse to post up a link to Coming Soon’s new blog. While we’d usually be the first to say that most company blogs are a little dull, this one bucks that trend. Featuring interviews with folks behind the label, profiles and behind the scenes looks, it’s a great example of how a company can make use of the format.

Ever since Coming Soon started, it’s been an extremely interesting (and un-googleable) brand. While Yohji Yamamoto’s had a few troubles lately, his youth-orientated brand has gone from strength to strength. This next collection continues to move towards a slightly relaxed silhouette with rose-infused camo trousers and, our favourite, the camo blazer. The rest of the collection strays into the usual summer styles (nautical tops and blazers, lightweight coats, chambray) – all with the usual Yohji Panache.

Yohji Yamamoto’s diffusion line, Coming Soon, previews their Spring 2010 footwear at (capsule). The “relaxed youthful” vibe continues into their shoes witha series of high, low, and slip-on models that bounces black against white. Our backup is the low-top in what looks to be digital camo green (seen below) which should work for a more discreet look. We’re told to expect distribution to be slightly wider than the apparel collection. Keys open doors. Quick note. We hear this collection was done in collaboration with Generic Surplus. Not a bad look.

We’re know what you’re thinking. ‘Badges? what am I going to do with a badge?’ First off – open your mind. Secondly (second off isn’t a proper phrase, is it?) there’s loads you could do with these badges.

The sensible shoe answer would be that you could add some life to that pea coat you bought last year and stopped wearing because it got played out real quick. You could sew it onto a plain sweater. You could even patch it over a hole in your shoes (don’t blame us if that goes horribly wrong though). The point is, step outside the boundaries and don’t get stuck in a rut. Wear badges.

Following on from our preview of the Max Vadukul-directed AW09 video, we have a look at Coming Soon’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. The styling in this collection isn’t really to our tastes – having more than a hint of overstyled hipster hobo about it – but certain indivdual pieces really caught our eye. The jumper on the far left is a standout whilst the shawl collar coat is another great piece. Just avoid it if you’re vertically challenged as it’ll make you look incredibly stumpy.

If we traded in cliches, we’d say that short films are the new runway shows. But we don’t, so we won’t. What we will say is that we’ve noticed a jump in designers making short films to showcase their collections lately and it’s usually a more effective way of showing what your brands about and how your clothes will fit into everyday life.

Yohji Yamamoto’s diffusion line Coming Soon has always produced great videos for their collection and they’ve got Max Vadukul on the case again for their new one. The video hasn’t been released just yet, but we have some stills after the hop and skip.

The Coming Soon and Y’s Mandarina pop-up shop that opens today in NYC comes as no surprise. It is a great outlet for both of these Yamamoto brands showcase their goods in a very friendly environment. ”The three month pop-up shop will open their doors starting tomorrow Friday, May 8th at 12pm. Make sure you stop by, check out the goods and pick up some goodies before everyone else gets put on.” (williamyan)

Yohi Yamamoto’s Coming Soon line still confuses people when we mention it, but we’ll all need to get over it. The wears are properly fashioned for those looking for a more relaxed “youthful” vibe. Take these two work vests from Coming Soon – one in chambray and the other in herringbone. One is perfect for the farmhand, while the other is tailored for the Brandon Flowers in all of us.
