We recently reported about the on-going collaboration between Speedo and Comme des Garcons. Colette has now released two of the latest swim shorts in their online store.
The Comme des Garcons Guerilla Store L.A. opened its doors this weekend. Another hot retail spot for the city, where a lot has been happening in the past months in terms of stores already.
The new store is just like most of these guerilla stores around the globe, very raw in terms of design, minimal and nothing like any other store in its surroundings. On your next L.A. trip, make sure to stop by.
The Dover Street Market online store has been updated and next to the Comme des Garcons 8 88 scent, they also sell the candle now. Also the Monocle x Comme des Garcons scent, that we presented to you a while ago, is now available for purchase.
We take a quick first look at the collections of our favorite designers. The Fall/Winter ‘08 shows are finished and already now you can see what you will be wearing in about 6 months time!
First up is Dsquared. The Canadian designer twins, living in Milan, continue to deliver sharp looks. When in the beginning the fleece line was interesting, we find that rather boring now, but their tailored collection has gotten really good! Sharp cuts and interesting twists also in the upcoming seasons!
Junya Watanabe presents interesting looks. English classics mixed with American classics and of course as usual very experiemental cuts!
Fantastic new Kris Van Aasche collection. We do not like what he did for the new Dior Homme line, but his own label is looking really good. The grey suite with the denim shirt works!
Above you see the fastest growing brand in the Gucci Group – Bottega Veneta. They have set new standards in quality, just unbelievable. The warm brown and beige colors of their collections are almost a signature for the brand and the mens collection is looking really good. If just the prices would look that good too?!
Comme des Garcons once again plays with the tartan patterns and as usual it works for them. The blazer with the pants is great, the shoes less!
Viktor & Rolf, the Dutch superstar designers, present as usual an interesting collection and of course the models wear hats. They also make nice casual clothes actually, what most people never get to see! On your next Milan trip, make sure to check out their store, its entirely upside down!
Number (N)ine has been a little disappointing the past couple of seasons. The Fall/Winter 2008 collection makes us hope again. More color, while keeping their style. Lots of leather and inspiration from the countryside.
Band Of Outsiders has become a favorite of ours. The young NYC brand has been very successful since its creation and continues to present strong collections. We look forward to the bright future of the brand!
Lanvin came back from the dead since they present a Pret-A-Porter collection. Unfortunately its still super hard to come by. Great suits, but also the cashmere and sneakers are a favorite.
And last but not least Rag & Bone. Once a small insider brand, they have become a major player. We still love their collections, which stay all in all very solid and also wearable.
In case you want to see an entire collection of one of the designers above, then check out

Here we give you a first look at the upcoming Spring/Summer 2008 styles by this on-going Fred Perry x Comme des Garcons collaboration. Of course the Japanese brand remixes once again the classic Fred Perry polo, coming this time with a new stripe design and in new colors. Also they will be releasing the Fred Perry jacket as part of this collaboration collection. Keeps your eyes open for the drop!
Gold inspires people’s wildest dreams, because it symbolizes health, wealth and happiness. Thanks to high quality ingredients such as Pepperwood extract, turmeric, coriander and luxurious geranium, Comme des Garçons creates 8 88, a fragrance that comes in a beautiful gold metallic bottle and box. Now avaialble at Colette.
A little while ago we pointed out an article on how Comme des Garcons has build an underground luxury perfume empire. What is meant by that? Well, basically the Japanese brand started recently producing scents for other brands as well, but just like with their own brand, they only work with brands that are not too commercial, but that do an excellent job with their brands. One such brand is fellow Japanese brand Undercover by Jun Takashi. Comme des Garcons has for such a long time been successful with their own scents and perfumes, that this move only made sense.
Now Comme des Garcons also joined forces with one of our favorite “new” magazines, Monocle. Monocle has impressed from day one with its all-around knowledge on pretty much everything out there. After previously collaborating on bags with Porter Japan, a bike with Skepshult, they continue to only work with the very best and now did their own scent with Comme des Garcons – Hinoki.
“Produced for us by Comme des Garçons’ perfumer, Antoine Maisondieu, Hinoki is a cedary, woody scent inspired by Japanese hot-spring baths and Scandinavian forests.”
Hinoki is available at selected Comme des Garçons stores and monocle.com for deliveries in 2008.
First pictures have turned up now of a soon to come Vans x Comme des Garcons collaboration. The sneaker brand and the Japanese label worked on the Sk8-Hi. It comes in an all black colorway, with black leather on the upper, the logo stripe and also on the mid and outer sole. The contrast stitching is a nice look on this otherwise very simple and subtle sneaker.
For now there is no release date out, but we’ll definitely keep you posted. Pic via Shinsuke Takizawa.

The International Herald Tribune has an interesting article up on Japanese brand Comme des Garcons building a niche perfume empire. Already for almost 15 years the brand is in the perfume business and just like large companies such as Procter & Gamble and Coty, they are now starting to take on other brands to produce perfume for them. But unlike these other companies, they concentrate on the niche high-end market. First brands that they signed include Undercover by Jun Takashi and Monocle Magazine. Read the article here
It will be interesting to watch the progress of this move. If the perfumes for the other brands are only half as good as the Comme des Garcons perfume line, we can expect good things to come!
LA based jewelry company Chrome Hearts and Comme des Garcons got together for a small collaborative collection. The collection consists of jewelry, shirts and t-shirts. Designed by Rei Kawakubo and Chrome Hearts the collection is now available at Dover Street Market.
Check out all the other jewelry pieces after the jump.
