Details | The Perfect Corduroy Suit

selectism - details-corduroy-suits

The new Details site has a nice feature on Corduroy suits. With Etro, Band Of Outsiders, Salvatore Ferragamo and Burberry all making appearance, this guide is definitely one for those who haven’t been hit by the recession too hard. If you can get past that, then there are some great cord suits to be seen. We hate to nit-pick, but we’re not so sure that a cord suit is an easier proposition than a tweed one. While the latter can be a little stiff, a cord suit can go very wrong if it isn’t styled right.

Satyenkumar Corduroy Cardigan/Blazer

What do you call a piece like this? If you’re Oki-Ni, you call it a ‘cardigan tailored jacket’. If you’re us, you call it a cardigan/blazer. whatever you want to call it, it’s a great piece. Some of Satyenkumar’s creations can err too far into the avant garde for us, but this would look great on any man confident enough to wear it with pride. The phrase ‘classics with a twist’ has almost turned into a cliche, but it describes this perfectly. At just under £500, you’ll need some extra coins in your pocket to get this, but it’s worth it. Uniqlo Corduroy Shirts

Let’s be honest – if you’re buying half the things mentioned on these menswear blogs (including us, obviously), you’ll need to skimp somewhere. Uniqlo’s speciality is making one piece that you’ll end up buying at least three colourways of. Last season it was oxfords, which they’ve continued making, and this season it’s corduroy shirts. Colours range from the calm (grey) to the not-so calm (hot pink) and the price is an affordable £14.99. At the moment it’s only available online in Uniqlo’s Japanese store, although it’s available in physical stores around the world. (Uniqlo)

Our Legacy Corduroy Blazer

selectism - our-legacy-corduroy-blazer-01

What we’ll be wearing for the upcoming season can be summed up in three words: all corduroy everything. It’s what we’re on, it’s what we’re about, it’s what we wanna get into. The only reason we’re not wearing corduroy this very second is because it’s still 20c outside and we’re not into the sweaty legs look.

Our Legacy’s AW09 is one of our favourite collections out right now. The company’s strongest asset is how well they create incredibly desirable collections, as opposed to one or two desirable pieces. This corduroy blazer is slightly more fitted than their previous efforts, so if it might be time to hit the treadmill if you wanna look good in this. (Tres Bien)

The drill hasn’t changed, detailed shots after the jump.

Our Legacy Corduroy Chinos

We’ve been waiting for these cords to drop ever since we saw Our Legacy’s AW09 collection way back when. Our Legacy have been making cords for a while now, but it looks like they’ve found the perfect cut. The main difference is that they’ve added more tapering from the knee – giving it that ‘New Standard’ cut that everyone’s in love with.

It’s at Oi Polloi right now – although it won’t be for long, judging from how quickly it’s been selling there. While we’re a little salty our sizes are selling out, it’s nice to see some people are still prepared to buy pieces they covet during a tough year. (Oi Polloi)
