A film by Jonas Lindström, set in London, Once You Come Close is a project for Italian label Costume National. We follow a young man as he wanders East London, story given by a poetic monologue voiceover discussing ideas around beauty and self-perception.

“People say beauty is symmetry. That numbers define aesthetics. Beauty is not a mathematical problem. And if it was – what would be the solution? An army of lookalikes? The desire to belong leads to uniformity. To be an average beauty means living a contradiction.”

We quickly touch upon three fragrances from the CoSTUME NATIONAL line: one for men, women, and an androgynous third. The gents will be interested in their “Homme EDP:” “The fragrance opens with a very fresh blend of grapefruit, cardamom and bergamot. The essence then plunges into the spicy heart of Cinnamon, Thyme and Cloves. In the end, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Labdanum give depth and warmth to the general accord.” The androgynous “Scent Intense EDP” is stated to push out “hibiscus on a bed of rich amber while driving straight in the amber.” Those interested can sample the scent at CoSTUME NATIONAL and Barneys.

Sergei Sviatchenko’s Close Up and Private has been carving a niche for itself separate from the menswear boom for a while now. It’s not lead by trends (although it popped up at the time when everyone was in love with Ivy style) and there’s enough touches to it to suggest that it’s an art project instead of a photoshoot. This time he’s worked with Costume National to create this interpretation of their AW11 collection, which are more than worthy of your attention. They might even get a reblog or two on tumblr.

GQ Eye tells us, “An army of dark suits for the man who doesn’t wear suits, complete with drawstring trousers, zippered pant pockets, chewed-up edges, and fuzzy sleeves. Costume Nationale turns up fashionable shit kicking with two new boots. The color way alone sells these mid and high top kickers. The upper is finished in black leather while the heel and sole are finished in neon yellow, which should tell people to keep their distance. Avoid people rocking these boots in pubs or you may be in for it. Costume Nationale – proving that even the hardest of dude can buy (or take) what they please.
