01. Trading Museum By Comme Des Garçons
“They’ve done it again. Rei Kawakubo and her team have created a space in the MVRDV-designed Gyre Building in Omotesando, Tokyo, that surpasses all trends. Comme des Garçons’ Trading Museum is part retail outlet, part museum. In the words of director Adrian Joffe, Kawakubo’s purchase of several beautiful antique wooden display cabinets from the V&A Museum was ‘perhaps the moment that the idea of the trading museum came about’.” (frame)
02. Anne Hathaway on the Cover of British GQ (above)

As the DFA, the two produced important records by folks like the Rapture and the Juan Maclean and remixes for Le Tigre, Nine Inch Nails, Gorillaz, and more. The DFA played a huge role in the dance-punk wave that helped to define indie rock’s sound in the first half of the last decade. 03. The Design Revolution Hits the Road
“Last night, in San Francisco, Emily Pilloton and her merry band of humanitarian-design crusaders hosted the official send-off for their Design Revolution Road Show, which will be touring the country in a vintage Airstream trailer between now and April. I am very sorry I wasn’t able to attend–the invite to the “parking lot party” touted a tantalizing trifecta of mobile food vendors: one taco truck, one pizza truck, and one cupcake truck. Fortunately, even if you can’t make it to any of the tour stops, Pilloton and company are posting copious photos and videos on their blog. In fact, the Road Show has already made three pre-kickoff stops, including one at Pilloton’s alma mater, Redwood High School.” (metropolispov)

04. The Lady And The Velocette
“It’s quite rare to find a photograph of a woman rider from the 1920s, let alone one of such clarity and charm as this one. Our heroine kneels in supplication to her sulking mount, with tool roll out, and a look of sheer misery which every motorcyclist understands! Oh, the joys and pains of life on two wheels.” (vintagent)

02. Gone and Even More Collectible
“The announcement last month that Martin Margiela had left his fashion house, following a year of considerable doubt about his presence there, suddenly changed the context of his work of the last 20 years. Rather than looking at his recent collections as representative of one of the world’s most influential designers in midcareer, the fashion world was faced with the realization that his oeuvre is now complete.” (nyt)

03. New Massive Attack – “Saturday Come Slow” (Feat. Damon Albarn)
“As reported time and again, Massive Attack’s forthcoming Heligoland features a monstrous cameo list with the occasional side dish of NSFW porn confessional. The track with Tunde is out there, and in step with Damon’s recently revealed Gorillaz jam comes this collab with the Bristol duo on “Saturday Come Slow.” It’s a Heligoland high water mark for Massive Attack’s restrained, pitch-perfect production and Damon’s weary, wrenching delivery.” (stereogum)
04. Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy
“Roberto Rossellini is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time. And it was with his trilogy of films made during and after World War II—Rome Open City, Paisan, and Germany Year Zero—that he left his first transformative mark on cinema. With their stripped-down aesthetic, largely nonprofessional casts, and unorthodox approaches to storytelling, these intensely emotional works were international sensations and came to define the neorealist movement. Shot in battle-ravaged Italy and Germany, these three films are some of our most lasting, humane documents of devastated postwar Europe, containing universal images of both tragedy and hope.” (criterion)
