While for many men the boat shoe is a seasonal wear, for me it is a year long obsession. I run through them with such frequency that searching for the next pair consumes some significant time. Chasing the holy grail, a Helly Hansen model with padded tongue has proved fruitless, but I’ve become hopefully that the offering from Chatham Marine might fill the void.

Chatham Marine has “traded on the weekend sailor” for the past 20 years from their base in Exeter. There’s an emphasis on function, with their boat shoe manages through the magic of being machine washable. Like my loved Helly Hansen, the Chatham Marine boat shoe also has a padded tongue (essential when boat shoes are also favored biking shoes) and are hand stitched.

While they might not have the style appeal of the completely hand-made, they appear more than ably suited for a variety of uses. Take a walk to No. 6 if they strike your fancy. A few more color choices appear after the jump as well.

Still wearing boat shoes? really? It’s cold outside now. Covering up with socks won’t do it. Deck shoes are as summery as shorts and you wouldn’t wear those in winter would you?

Pointer are another of those brands who are bridging the gap between streetwear and fashion orientated clothing (the latter needs a snappy nickname). These aren’t new by any sense of the word, but they’re perfect for those days when you’re in some chinos or cords and don’t want to look like you copied an outfit from Free & Easy. Just don’t wear it with denim – that’s far too obvious. And put away those boat shoes. (Flatspot)

We know, we know – more deck shoes. While last year they were seen as fresh, this year a lot of people seem to have tired of them. We’re not one of those people. In summer, they’re just the most appropriate shoe to wear when your not wearing out your springcourts. It seems like everyone’s got at least one pair of Sperrys, but we don’t think many will be rocking the green suede versions. Get it from Farfetch.
