Dries Van Noten Paint Splattered Denim Shirt

While we’re sure some will see this shirt as a sign we’re jumping the shark (again) we like it. People have been on a mission to jazz up the denim shirt for a while now (Our Legacy have been the most successful) and now Dries give it a go. While the print looks a little like a denim-covered cow – chew on that thought for a second – it’d look great underneath a complimenting sweatshirt. (Browns)

Lanvin Denim Shirt

We’re all about (slightly) more affordable pieces of Lanvin, whether it be their footwear or pieces like this denim shirt. As far as denim shirts go this isn’t going to change the world – unlike all the other denim shirts doing the rounds – but it’s pretty sharp. Not to mention how ‘Youth in Revolt’ it looks when teamed with and white trousers. (Luisaviaroma)

Now that the dust has settled on Jill Sander’s collection for Uniqlo, we can take a cool and considered look at our favourite pieces. While the funnel jacket and trousers all scored highly, our numero uno piece had to be this denim shirt.

It’s rare to see a denim shirt truly stripped down to the basics – no western shoulder patches, no weird pockets, no embellishments – just a great plain denim shirt. And it’s at a reasonable price of £25. We know you could probably get a slightly more special version if you proxy it straight from some obscure Japanese brand, but sometimes we prefer not to spend all our money on clothing. (Uniqlo)

COS Washed Denim Shirt

Although denim shirts have offically made a comeback, it’s still a challenge to get hold of an affordable, well made one if you’re nowhere near a J.Crew. This COS shirt is a great, soft washed denim and the fit is like the rest of COS’s shirts – perfect. The slim collar means it also lends well to being buttoned up to the top – so it’ll work well as a layering piece in the winter. Add in the £39 cost (half price now in the sales) and this is a no brainer. Like all COS pieces, this isn’t available online, so finding a store is your only option. (COS)

Makin Jan Ma denim shirt

It looks like the world is ready for denim shirts again. It’s taken a while but when designers like Makin Jan Ma are doing them, it’s a sign that they’re about to get big again. If the plain style of denim shirt hasn’t caught your eye then this colour blocked version certainly will. We know we said you could get away with wearing double denim the other day, but this kind of shirt is best left worn with trousers or chinos. Get it from Far Fetch (It’s sold out, but you can send a quick email to find out when it’ll be back in stock)
