Loake ‘Stamford’ Derby

Selectism - loake-derby-01

While rubber soles are usually mocked as the ugly sister of footwear soles, they do have their place. Take these Loake’s for example. They look classy as ever from the top, yet have all the ruggedness to deal with rain and – if you’re feeling brave – a little snow. The £170 price tag isn’t too hard to swallow either. (Herring)

Crockett & Jones ‘Grasmere’ Derby

We haven’t posted an old-school handsome shoe in a while, so here goes. We’re still weighing up whether we prefer derbies over brogues and you know what? It depends. We’re aware that the cost-conscious will balk at the £295 price tag but, as we often say, spend more on less and you’ll have the better wardrobe. Anyway, what’s the point of having all the shoe styles in the world if they all break down in a couple of seasons? (Edwards)

Barker ‘Aden’ Derby

Selectism - barker-aden-derby-01

It’s been a while since we’ve featured some of that made in England goodness, so here’s a refresher. As much as we love Church’s and Tricker’s, we’d be the first to admit that not everyone can afford to spend that much on shoes. Which is where a brand like Barker comes in. Their shoes are all made in Northampton and, as you can see, they have plenty of handsome shoes available. This derby has a longer toe, giving it a more elegant look than the usual rounded toe. Needless to say, this’ll look pretty – excuse our french – darn good with a well worn pair of jeans. (Edwards)

Church’s ‘Waterline’ Derby

Selectism - churchs-waterline-derby-01

Here’s something you can’t get online. Church’s have been done a suede derby for a few seasons now and, for reasons unknown to us, you can’t get them anywhere other than their physical stores. But as we tease you with so much Japanese product, we might as well show off these derbies. At £190, they’re from the affordable side of Church’s collection and they’re perfect for summer – the only problem is the whole ‘not available online thing’. Time to start searching for your nearest available physical store.

Lounge Lizard Derby Shoes

Selectism - lounge-lizard-derby-shoes-01

The sun’s out – which means it’s time to start posting up white shoes. We don’t follow the no white in winter rule too closely, but there’s something just a little ’sleazy playboy’ about wearing shoes that match the snow. But now spring’s here we can relax those rules and show off these Lounge Lizard derbies. If you can get hold of these – no easy feat – then they’ll act as a great finisher to a muted outfit. (Mindtrive)

If, for some bizarre reason, you’re just not into white shoes there’s brown and black colourways after the leap.

Folk Finlay Suede Derby Shoes

selectism - shofolk-grey-finlay-01

We don’t usually buy full price pieces when sales are on (common sense sometimes gets in the way of fashion sense) but these shoes are worth a punt at any price. Reasons why we like these shoes are simple. Firstly they’re derbies and secondly, they’re in grey suede (or ‘smoke’ if you’re fancy). And, most importantly, they’d look great whether you’re smartening up or outside of Popeyes eating chicken and fries. (ASOS)

Sanders Derby Buck Shoes

Selectism - Sanders Derby Buck Shoes

Some tasty loden green buck shoes from Sanders to start off the year. Bucks, which have been just as overplayed as the deck shoe, simply cannot go out of style – especially when good brands keep mixing up the colorways of the suede. These bucks from Sanders in “loden green” work. Oipolloi has them.

Rachel Comey Patent ‘Evans’ Derby Shoe

selectism - rachel-comey-evans-caramel-patent-shoe-01

We know that winter has officially arrived, but we’re still on the lookout for a good summer shoe – we’re oddballs like that. Judging from this shoe, Comey’s got us covered. Some of Comey’s shoes have a tendency to ‘bulge’ at the sides due to the lightness of the material, giving the shoe a slightly cheap look; this shoe avoids that issue by being made from patent leather. The leather sole isn’t ideal for wet weather, but we’d be ready to bring these out as soon as the sun comes out again. (Forward)

The song remains the same, take a hop and skip to see further images.

B Store Derby Shoes

selectism - b-store-derby-shoe-01

We’re shoe obsessed at the moment. We’d like to offer some vogue-esque reason about shoes ‘providing an escape from the world’ or some nonsense, but there’s really no deep reasoning behind it. We’re just into them right now. And we’re not fussy either, we don’t care whether they’re rough-and-tumble boots or poncey shoes – if it’s a handsome shoe, we’re gonna feature it. Take these B Store Derbies for instance. They’re shoes, we like them, so we featured them. It’s as simple as that. (Farfetch)

lanvin derby shoes front Lanvin Calf Derby

With the weather getting colder and more rain falling these days, its always good having a solid pair of shoes with gum sole. Lanvin produced a particularly nice pair this season – the Calf Derby. Even though it features the gum sole, the shoe keeps its elegant sporty looks.

The Lanvin Calf Derby comes in black patent and black velvet and is now available at Colette.

Detailed images of both styles follow after the jump.
