Designed by Hisashi Fukatami, Diet Butcher Slim Skin have become a little more conventional this season – or at least their lookbook has. Their clothes are still for the defiant dandy with oversized mohair sweaters, slim cut overcoats and leather trousers. The boots premiered last season make a comeback and fashun sneaker lovers will be glad to know that their high tops are still in the collection.

Diet Butcher Slim Skin have always been punk influenced (designer Hisashi Fukatami has noted that Jamie Leid’s graphics were a strong influence) and that continues, albeit in more abstract ways than before. Known for their high tops, this time Hisashi Fukatami has added boots to the range. They’ve also added ¾ length trousers – still a fashion no-no for most folks. We’d be the first to say they’d never come back, but we thought the same about cargo pants a couple of seasons ago.

Last week Diet Butcher Slim Skin held an installation for their AW09 collection entitled ’strange birds’. As you can see from the picture above, the collection featured several biker-inspired pieces, including a very interesting down jacket with a waist cut like a waistcoat. The installation is a very victorian-esque display – albeit one where mannequins with the heads of birds are decked out in Diet Butcher Slim Skin’s AW09 clothing.

Although their high tops get all the attention, the other pieces of Diet Butcher Slim Skin’s collection is pretty covetable as well. Take these leather jackets for instance. They have a definite Rick Owens-esque quality about them but the colours immediately making them something Owens himself would never design. The jacket is slim-fit and silk lined, making them more appropriate for the early days of spring.

Blackbird Seattle just received their shipment of Diet Butcher’s Slim Skin Collection featuring these great leather boots. “The official color is listed as dark brown but it is such an interesting shade which in some areas appears almost as a very deep purple. Just by handling these you can really see such a huge amount of hand workings which went into them, including the nailed inner and outer soles, incredible stacked heel, and dye processing.” Priced at 1275$US.
