We’re on our jacket ’steeze’ this morning and this Barbour jacket is fulfilling our winter coat needs. It’s not really suitable for right now (unless you like sweating) but it’ll be great when the weather takes a bad turn. (Oi Polloi)

Every season there’s a Uniqlo piece that tends to take the interwebz by storm. Last season it was the oxford and the vintage chino the season before that. This time it’s set to be their premium down coat.

Down coats are always a tricky affair; it’s very easy to end up channelling the Michellin Man. Uniqlo have got it just right with their deceptively cheap – £50 right now, £70 usually – down coat. There’s more than a whiff of Cabourn in the orange coat, but that’s no bad thing. (Uniqlo)

Shirt or jacket? That’s the question everyone (and we mean everyone) is asking themselves about this piece. We’d play it safe and call it a slim jacket. It’s not as if anyone’s about to start to wearing this with no undershirt, are they? So this jacket is perfect for the folks who like a bit of puffa action, but not a lot of it. It’s basically a watered-down down jacket (excuse the awful play on words). If you were to compare down jackets to music, this’d be the UB40 of down jackets – just enough to give the consumer a taste, but not so much that they get offended. (South Willard)

The Moncler revolution continues. After their re-invention of the down jacket other brands have been willing to put their own spin on the classic style. Aspesi’s take on the jacket is a tailored one, in line with the rest of the brands pieces. Their dark green jacket is practically a blazer in down jacket materials and could be worn as a smart piece should the wearer be able to pull it off.
