WWD is on point with their take of the Dries Van Noten Spring 2011 collection. “The collection he showed on Thursday night was surprising. It intriguingly channeled skinhead style without resorting to too many punk clichés—only heavily bleach stained denim, and army boots with baggy shorts. His signature cardigans had intentional snags, and were fastened with leather straps. Van Noten interspersed these among more characteristic fare including elegantly tailored jackets, coats and fine shirts, sometimes in bland Seventies fabrics or with contrasting sleeves, both of which he’s been known to experiment with.”

The Linda Farrow website has launched their US domestic webstore featuring their full range of sunglasses. We’re pulling the Dries Van Noten sunglasses from the collection for review. Wireframe and some acetates are available. Their take on the aviator silhouette is fresh and interesting.

Fashionisto gives his take on the Dries Van Noten show in Paris this week. “Dries Van Noten sent a graphic parade down the runway earlier today with detailed piping and larger than life prints making quite the statement. Riding an influx of color and excitement, Dries Van Noten interjected men’s suiting with great personality. From dressed down sweats-styled trousers and bold electric blue separates to contrasting inserts, Van Noten’s man proved to be the life of the party. Bridging the gap between modest and playful, the collection executed a well-balanced turn at a personable collection for the man of all occasions.”

One of the best things about the workwear revival is how much renewed attention is being paid to designers who have kept their aesthetic on the wearable side. We could argue that plenty of ‘fashion’ designers make far more wearable pieces than even the most beloved blogger brand, Engineered Garments – take this Valence jacket for instance. Say what you want about Dries, but they’ve never made a tweed top hat. (South Willard)

While Dries Van Noten always have interesting collections and we are fans of their footwear, sometimes their shoes can step a little too far into the leftfield for some. Their AW09 collection looks to continue this, with new versions of those contrast oxfords that attracted so much hate – we still stand by us featuring them -  when we featured them a while back. They’ve also included some tasselled loafers, crocodile skin-effect oxfords and laceless brogues.

This contrasting strap oxford shoe from Dries Van Noten is an example of modernization of a classic working. The shoe itself is slip on due to elasticated side panels. The brown strap is adjustable to bring a snug fit. It is not your average oxford, but does it always have to be average? Browns has them in stock now.
