We’re very proud of the collaborative TUMI Alpha Duffle Bag we worked on this year. We love it so much that we figured it was high time to share our own looks and thoughts on the process. First and foremost, we need to thank TUMI for working with us on this project. We went through several revisions of the duffle bag before landing on what is a unique and new design to the TUMI line up. The four-in-one duffle is the first TUMI bag of its kind and built for our staff’s traveling needs.

The TUMI Alpha series was the inspiration for the Selectism duffle bag. The digital camo collection back in 2009 may have started it for us; this weekend duffle has been used by some on our staff for years now. Like most TUMI products, it has taken its fair beating through luggage returns and, as expected, performs as well as it did on day one. We believed that the TUMI duffle form was where we needed to start. With the help of TUMI we began to add in new features to make it even more versatile; the additions of the removable laptop sleeve, camera/day pouch, and tote bag came from these conversations and solved our specific needs which we’re sure others have as well. These features are the heart of our Selectism by TUMI Alpha Four-in-One Duffle Bag.

We let this one breathe since last Friday when Cool Hunting let the cat out of the bag. Today, Park and Bond’s “The Intersection” delivers a proper dissection of our special Selectism by Tumi Alpha Four-In-One Duffle Bag. It has been in the works for some time; a proper travel bag, built tough, while allowing for expansion as needed. The final product is not only a wholly new bag in the TUMI line, it is also a reflection our needs when on the road. Check the removable zipper bags that line the exterior. Look inside see the liner. Parabellum’s Medicine Man Duffle bag uses the same free-range, deep textured bison leather found throughout their collection. The interior is lines with Kevlar – an almost overkill application that gives the bag extra strength. Ceramic hardware finishes the duffel off nicely. Some Japan love. This Sunforger Day Duffle bag from the South 2 West collection. Considered a duffle, the bag comes with a shoulder strap and is formed with a wide mouth for getting your life in there. A solid offering that is slightly unique to every other canvas duffle out there. The rucksack may be more your speed. See it in our gallery.

Military inspired pieces can be done well or done perfectly. Engineered Garments did this remake of the “Duffle Backpack” the only way Engineered Garments does a piece: perfectly. Here they have”re-engineered” the military backpack or rucksack. The conclusion is a “spacious bag that is easy on the shoulders and easy to get in and out of.” The duffle has a “single snap pocket, adjustable shoulder straps and a single” exterior compartment. The bag comes to in two colors: olive and off-white color. It’s handmade in New York City. There haven’t been too many duffle bag renditions done right, but I feel this one is on top of the remake game. Available at Steven Alan.

We love anything blazed. These orange “blaze” tote and duffle bags from Rogues Gallery are proper for day to day use. The outers are made from 10oz “waxed oil” cloth and feature flannel linings on the inside. A bunch of bags to choose from for the season but we love these. Look for them soon.

The Temple U-Zip Duffle Bag is one of my favorite bags of 2010. They’re made from repurposed camping packs form WWII giving them an honest to goodness vintage vibe. Online you’ll find it in the Army green shade, but we’re previewing the black version above.

A handsome bag shouldn’t always come at a handsome price.

Developed for Urban Outfitters, the Brothers Bray and Co. collection continues to bring affordable and quality luggage at moderate price points. The duo behind Billykirk’s latest offering is a duffle bag constructed of woven cotton. Leather accents finish the bag, which includes both carry handles and a removable shoulder strap for ease of transport. (via Acquire).

Slightly out of my budget at 900$US is this Rogues Gallery Handmade Duffle Bag in brown leather. It’s made in their hometown of Portland, ME (New England for life). It features a heavy gauge two way zip closure, and bad ass “nautical grade hardware.” It looks like it will take a serious beating. We like that. (gq)

Jansport pulls out the heritage treatment on their Snowqualmie Duffle Bags. Available in three shades, with our favorite being the “retro orange,” the duffle bags are made from weathered Cordura fabric, feature one large main compartment with antique brass metal zippers, front & side gear pockets, wraparound seat belt webbing grab handles. Yes, the 1967 logo is a great look. (oipolloi)
