The Japanese denim sages at Edwin and British jacketeers Lavenham have teamed for a jacket and vest that are best described with a heartfelt: “damn.” Of course, looking at the outerwear, the question leaped to the fore: “Where’s the denim?”

“The ‘Black Wool’ fabric … developed for the project in Japan … is constructed from 9.5oz, 100-percent yarn dyed napping Oxford denim and heavily brushed. Backed with heavy quilting and constructed at the Lavenham factory in Sudbury, England, it also features specially developed removable ‘shank’ buttons.

And there you have it. Either piece would look seriously slick in the chilly, chilly air anywhere, with your breath fogging about your head. You’ll have to move with due diligence to get one, however, as a limited number were constructed. Available in July from select European Edwin carriers.

EDWIN denim gets together with Yohji Yamamoto Inc. for the introduction of Yohji Jeans – a new collaborative line between the two Japanese brands. The signature Yohji line looks to be a production and distribution deal where the designer has licensed his name for the work. ”Naked” is the first collection from Yohji Jeans, “a metaphor for rebirth evoking the pureness of the line and the simplicity of the wardrobe.” Look for the collection to land in shops around June 2012.

Edwin make great denim and great videos. If these are two things that interest you then please go ahead and press play. A look behind the scenes at their Japanese factory, these guys take the process of jean making very seriously. “The denim technicians at Edwin are true craftsmen, as their commitment and attention to the product is unquestionably what makes the Edwin product stand out from the mass of denim available within the market today. Whilst this remains ‘production’, the working philosophy remains closer to a greatly more efficient and productive Artisanal method.”

Jofama works over their Airman jacket for Edwin. Taking a solid nod from all crews that rocked proper leather: pilots, bikes, bears, greasers to name a few. “Aged buffalo hide sits atop blood red silk lining and vintage rivets and buttons and for those who want to get out of the plane and touch ground there’s a removable fur collar.” Look for it in the Edwin Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.

Edwin unwittingly showcases how we spend our summers, riding motorcycles in head to toe denim while listening to some acoustic guitar.

Pretty self explanatory here, but worth a watch.

Not much info on this teaser from Edwin, but we’ll fill you in as we get more. Could be something moving into the Eu territory that was Japan only.

We featured this before, but now it’s in stores we’ll look at it again. Like we expressed before, we’re a little surprised they didn’t make more use of liberty print on either the turn up or the lap seam. It would certainly have given the denim a bigger unique selling point over the apparent flood of new denim companies that have popped up lately. Nitpicking aside, we do like these. (Liberty)

Straight from Japan comes these Ink Max jeans from the Edwin line. The lightweight denim is printed with a “distressed” pattern to give them the look but not the break-in. “The coloration and marks are all printed with technology first used by Comme Des Garcons and Junya Watanabe.” Riccardi Boston stocks them.

Liberty of London continues their aggressive collaborative campaign – the latest in the form of  selvedge denim with the Edwin line. “hese classic Edwin ED-55 denim’s are made from our exclusive 140z Japanese Red Selvage, with the subtle addition of the classic Liberty print used in the detailing of some of the internal components of the denim. This is a truly beautiful pair of jeans, limited to just 100 pieces.”
