Mackintosh for Epaulet – Dowanhill Raincoat Navy

Mackintosh epaulet 01 Mackintosh for Epaulet Dowanhill Raincoat Navy

Mackintosh is one of those ‘traditional’ British labels that fell out of favour, found love in Japan and arrived back in the United Kingdom with a style stamp of approval and a new air of cool. Funny how these things happen. We’re not quite sure why the Scottish brand would ever suffer from a lack of interest. These guys laid down the template for unfussy rainwear; technical fabric from way back and those clean, clean lines seem to be something that defy fashion.

We live in a fickle world though and apologies should be offered to the 189 year old company for ever turning our backs on them. Epaulet, a store/label doing great things at the moment, have seen the light. This navy Mackintosh Dowanhill raincoat has been given a respectful makeover with a slimmer cut and, what the store describes as ‘a rakish interior liner’. This coat is something special. Find it at Epaulet.

Epaulet “Daltrey” Harris Tweed Sportcoat

epaulet tweed jkt 01 Epaulet Daltrey Harris Tweed Sportcoat

Epaulet bring us another ‘Mash-up’ item. This time they’ve taken Harris Tweed in three varieties; navy marl, oatmeal herringbone and gray-green basket-weave. Woven in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, this traditional fabric starts its life as 100% virgin wool.

Epaulet have created a traditional half-canvassed blazer (the canvas giving added structure to the jacket) featuring what they describe as ‘a natural shoulder’. Features include double rear vents, slim lapels, royal purple lining, goat suede elbow patches and goat suede undercollar. The real selling point is the patchwork of tweeds, rather than making this ‘wacky’ it actually just adds a bit of interest to a classic American sportcoat.

ashland ikat tie 01 Epaulet Ashland Ikat Tie

Epaulet Ashland Ikat tie, a nice alternative to the current stream of chambray and knitted models doing the rounds. Using a traditional dyeing technique popular for centuries in many different cultures, the combination of colours is just on the right side of bold. The guys describe this as “slim without being “skinny” or trendy.” We can get with that. (Epaulet)

Epaulet, Liberty London Paisley Shirt

Epaulet, Liberty London Paisley Shirt

Epaulet got together with Liberty of London to create a impressive selection of shirts. Based on Epaulet’s classic slim fit, we’d say these have a more tailored feel than Liberty’s own famous shirt line. The 100% cotton fabric is yarn dyed and woven in Japan. This particular model will appeal to the trend fans out there with its paisley print, one from the archives, ‘The Bourton’ is just the right side of interesting.

Epaulet Mash-up Gingham Shirt

Epaulet Mash-up Gingham Shirt

If we’re saying ‘yes’ to a mash-up it’s more than likely we’re talking about this shirt from NY store Epaulet than an ill-conceived conjoining of two popular songs from opposing genres. Gingham does just fine in one colour but if you fancy something a little more adventurous this might be just your thing. Slim fit, button down collar, trocas pearl buttons and mid-length tail, these come in a range of colours and with the following warning “Please Note: Each shirt is randomly composed, the images above will not necessarily match up with the actual shirt that you receive. It’s a little unpredictable, but that makes it more exciting!”

Some classic petty officer shirts for your attention from Epaulet. “Our CPO Shirt Jacket is crafted in 21oz 100% Italian Melton Wool. We built in side slash hand pockets on the outside and two functional and generously sized pockets on the inside.” Fits like a shirt but gives the warmth and protection of a jacket.
