The more beach friendly espadrilles might win round those who still find this particular style of shoe objectionable, the slightly wider fit make them appear more moccasin like, espcially invarious shades of suede. A nice selection ranging from smart to run-around.

A new year and a new range of espadrilles from Rivieras who have done a great jon of re-imagining that all-around leisure shoe of the shores. For 2012, the Rivieras lines add a variety of new textiles including suede leathers on the espadrille upper, denim (which works well without going over the top) and a model that reminds of of the great Nike HTM wovens of years past. Well worth exploring. We showcase a handful of our favorites.

Before we take a full look at the Woolrich Wollen Mills collection for Spring/Summer 2012, we peek at a pair of camo espadrilles that are part of a small footwear offering that will complement the clothing. What you see is what you get with these: camo fabric on the classic jute sole.

Jute based loafers with that soft espadrille fabric upper look to have some claim in Japan (and Spain) at the moment. We’re looking forward to them landing in the U.S.A. where thousands of sun-happy steppas will polish off their jigs to the sounds of everything from afro-beat to neu-rock. Possibly some of the best takes on the classic espadrilles? These mid-tops espadrilles from Balenciaga will piss off the espadrille purists. We like them for their attempt to mix leathers into the picture and really making them into something new. Check that leather heel hit. Don’t worry, the jute sole remains. The black piping works as well. LN-CC has them.
