Over on the R29 Pipeline, Piera Gelardi profiles some eight sets of clear shades that are sure to highlight your attire under the sun. "All of a sudden we’re spotting see-through specs everywhere. Coincidence? Perhaps—but unlikely. What caught our attention this time wasn’t just crystal-clear style, but translucent shades of cornflower blue, lavender, yellow, and amber."

The Pipeline takes a look at eyewear company, Salt. With some solid looks (and frames handmade in Japan), their bound to flourish. "Established in 2006 in sunny southern California, the sharp eyewear brand Salt. was created as a chic, peeper-protecting alternative to all the mega-brand optics that shade the eyes of the Hollywood elite (and those who wish to look like them)."

Cazal sunglasses have created a big movement and have become collector pieces among eyewear afficionados. Today we certainly see a huge trend towards vintage eyewear again, especially of eyewear coming from the 70’s and 80’s. Even though Cazal has never really been gone, the brand has come back strong in recent months. Their Dita collaboration has been really well received, but their vintage pieces still generate most interest.

This year they are presenting a Vintage Collection, which consists of the 901, 904 and 946 model, each coming in classic colorways. Via Openers.

Blackbird Seattle did some treasure chest digging and uncovered a nice collection of vintage Playboy eyeglass frames. These "deadstock" frames feature the Playboy logo on the frame side and come available in amber, black, and clear.

Brooklyn based Costalots Eyewear was conceived from a vintage pair of titmus frames by Matthew Costa while fashioning them for a friend. Today, a new world is open for Costalots. Available now from OAK, "the beauty of the shades are inherent in the simplicity of both shapes/styles. it’s some sort of neutrality or understated, under-wrought(factory-drudgery) that allows the person wearing them to shine." A variety of styles from the 900’s to 86’s are available.

Italian eyewear and filmmakers, Sugarkane, are doing things a bit uneven. Check their collection of frames and sunglasses which are asymmetrical in shape but somehow offer what may be considered some of the more unique frames around. Available online via www.sugarkane.it

When the iMacs started coming out in multiple colorways, it was arguable the beginning of the modern customization era where you can have just about anything in any color you want. In fashion, multiple companies have released “color packs” of denim, t-shirts, and trainers. Life is about having what you want in the color you want.

Pantone, the og of color-matching, is releasing their Pantone Eyewear series that allows for consumes to customize the (you guessed it) color of the eyewear frames. The palette for Pantone eyewear has “endless possibilities” for interchanging rims and arms. Look for them soon in metal optical, semi rimless, sport metal and sport variations.
