Jamieson’s Fair Isle Scarf

We’re all about patterned accessories. Striped, plaid, Fair Isle – especially fair isle – you name it, we’re on it. So it’s no surprise that we’re featuring this Jamiesons Scarf. Patterned scarves (and fair isle patterns) rely on the colour combinations to lift it from the 80’s Christmas vibe – one wrong colour and you can look very ‘Wham!’ Not a good look. This scarf avoids those connotations, just leaving you to fend off accusations of being a hipster, but don’t listen to them, they’re just jealous. (Oi Polloi)

Paul Smith Fair Isle Cardigan

As you can see, we’re into Fair Isle patterned knitwear at the moment. What can we say? If it looks nice and it’s a Fair Isle pattern, you’ll see it up here sooner or later. Take this Paul Smith cardigan for instance. The main thing we like about this cardigan is that the pattern doesn’t half step. And if you’re not up on your Big Daddy Kane, what we mean is that it’s a full on, all over pattern. None of this ‘just the chest’ business here. The obvious style tip would be to wear it with a plain shirt to calm it down but we say either wear it with clashing patterns or not at all. No half stepping. (Coggles)

Resistance Fair Isle Jumper

We’ve got a thing for fair isle knits at the moments, but good ones are hard to come by. There’s something about the pattern that makes it difficult to get right – companies either overdo it, underdo it or just make it plain ugly. So we were pleased to find that this Resistance pullover got it just right. It has enough colours to make you stand out amongst the grey and navy clad herd and, more importantly, the shawl collar is nice and thick; perfect for popping it up and using it as a makeshift scarf during a cold snap. Chamula Fair Isle Knitted Hat

Often imitated but never duplicated, Oi Polloi have been the prototype when it comes to setting up a successful online store. While most stores stock the usual brand mix (NDG/Folk/APC), Oi Polloi always throw a couple of curveballs in this and mix – this time it’s these Chamula fair isle caps.

We’d never say the phrase ‘bang on trend’ but if we did, now’d be the time to say it. A hat like this makes a nice alternative from cable knit hats and would bring a nice element of pattern clashing to your ‘fit’. And, as a wise man once said, variety is the spice of wardrobes. (Oi Polloi)

Universal Works Fair Isle Cardigan

We may be exposing our slightly grandad-ish tastes with this post, but we really like this fair isle cardigan. It may be a little too old school for some, but it’s right up our alley.

Our favourite thing about fair isle is that it’s one of those patterns that never really go out of fashion. Sure, it goes through its highs and lows in terms of popularity, but it never gets so trendy that it’ll fall out of fashion. Universal Works, a relatively new British workwear label, have created our favourite fair isle cardigan – mixing mustard and brown (with SL fave – brown buttons) into the pattern makes it much more interesting than the bog standard grey cardi. Just don’t be shocked if your granddad ‘borrows’ this. (Oi Polloi)
