Field Notes continues to re-imagine their simple and useful farmer’s notebook. Their latest take is the American Tradesman edition which looks to put these books to proper use in the world of carpentry and beyond. The blue duplex paper covers feature metallic ink printing and light grey pages. You’ll find a carpenter’s pencil and sharpening instructions with every set.

Field Notes adds a sheet of dry transfer lettering into their do-it-yourself kit for Spring 2011. Feel free to write anything you want. I would probably write “NACHO HUNTER.” Has a nice ring to it. Find them online or soon through any decent retailer.

Because all news is good news – we point you at the latest in the Field Notes collection – The STENO. “THE STENO is 6″ by 9″ with a black Double-O Wiring spiral at the top so it lies flat, open or closed. Inside you’ll find 80 pages of 70# ‘Bright White’ paper with a fine, soy-based application of ‘Double Knee Duck Canvas’ light brown ink. The covers are Newark Paperboard Mills 60 pt. ‘Super Duty Chipboard,’ with a screen-printed 1-Color application of “Dictation Smudge” black ink.”

Field Notes notebooks have garnered a great deal of press for their pocket friendly field notebooks. Though they clearly are not the only notebooks on the market, they do tend to communicate their story well, personalizing the relationship between the user, the notebook, and the notebook manufacturer. French’s whole aesthetic (largely based on their long-standing relationship with CSA Design) and their always-up-to-date variety of papers and colors has made them very popular, and their environmental policies have brought them even more attention lately.”

I did once say that real men rocked another special French paper company’s ledger, but while I am here in Europe for the next few week, I am carrying around the classic Field Notes 48 Page Memo Book. I do have it customized a bit with a fat Highsnobiety sticker on it in case someone cares to steal my thoughts. Things would of course be a bit cooler if I was rocking the Grass Satin Green Book – which is the third release in their series of seasonal color runs.
