Rohan have a little something of the check variety. These flannel shirts are made from their Thermocore fabric, a hollow core polyester that’s warmer, lighter, more durable and generally smarter than cotton. They explain “it’s also much easier to wash and, because it absorbs virtually no water, will comfortably dry overnight. And, unlike cotton, it won’t crease – so it’ll be ready to go again the next morning, with no ironing required. ” What more could you ask for?

Complementing a tremendous range of baseball apparel, Ebbets Field Flannels now offers a range of real hockey sweaters.

As expected, the sweaters capture the blood, sweat and tears of forgotten teams. The Seattle Totems, represented in a shirt from 1966, of the Western Hockey League are one example. The nine-time Calder Cup winning Cleveland Barons are notable for the largess of owner Al Sutphin, who offered such generous salaries that many players chose to suit up in Northern Ohio rather than test the waters of the NHL. The Flathead company was started in 1996 by Kobayashi Masayoshi and has produced amazing products for the Japanese market. Today, we have the ease and access to most of the products they offer in Japan thanks to Self Edge. The “Winter Flannel” comes in three different colorways: mustard, blue and red. The shirt is “made of a heavy cotton flannel with a combed super soft interior. Due to the heavy gauge thread and vintage loomed fabric, the shirt is an amazing piece for the winter months. This is the second rendition of the shirt and it might even better than the last.

This flannel pulls some nice features from the carpenter wear with varying sized pockets and  a carpenter’s look against a heavy 100% wool flannel.  Two colors are available. We happen to like this one. Goodhood has them.

I’ve got a hankering for baseball jerseys at the moment. In wool flannel, they simply have a timeless appeal. As garments, they also hold history well. Take the 1942 Sacramento Solons home jersey as an example.

A bit of team history -

One of the long-time members of the Pacific Coast League who were oftem runners-up. they brought joy to their faithful fans by winning the pennant in 1942. In 1945 Jo Jo White starred for the Solons leading the league in hits runs and batting average but the Solons were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

I love the “Health” patch on the left sleeve. Similar patches were worn throughout the WWII years, but this particular patch only appeared in 1942. In the hands of Ebbets Field Flannels details like that are never lost, nor are the production values of yesteryear. The Sacramento Solons jersey is made of white flannel with chain-stitch embroidery on the front. The team patch hits on the right sleeve, and the red contrast piping works a charm too. Manufactured, of course, in the USA.

The jersey also happens to be the flannel of the week, meaning you can snap it up at a rather handsome price.

Here’s another choice pick from Uniqlo. They’ve been the style bloggers secret weapon for eons now – we can’t think of any other high street brand who get namchecked in Monocle and has their own Supertalk thread – and pieces like this prove why they’ve retained that status. Patchwork shirts have a definite marmite effect on people; you either love it, hate it or hate that you love it. Us? we love it, but only in certain colourways (like the purple one above). We’re also in love with the price, coming in at an affordable £14.99. (Uniqlo)

The coats are made from the rawest cashmere which is spun into fine fibers to produce the flannel shell that is unexpectedly soft to the touch. Japanese premium denim brand Iron Hearts presents a new series of super heavy weight flannels – Double Boomtime flannels. They come in a special cotton that Iron Hearts has been developing for over two years now and is apparently softer and heavier than your regular flannel. That’s the kind of dedication that we appreciate.
