french 01 Liberty, Eqality, Fraternity at the Wolfsonian Miami

Designboom point us towards this exhibition at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami. Curated by French designer Matali Crasset with the help of design experts Alexandra Midal and M/M Paris, ‘Liberty, Eqality, Fraternity’ looks at Product design and its impact on the social, political and economic life of France. Looking at objects from the 1940s onwards in a more conceptual, as opposed to documentary, setting, work from the likes of Roger Tallon, Pierre Paulin, Phillipe Starck, and the Bouroullec Brothers are all on show.

La Belle France’s Megève Poster

La Belle France's Megève Poster

La Belle France commissioned The Heads of State for a new poster series celebrating the newsletter’s launch into the online world. For those not familiar, they cover the high end world of French luxury hotels, fine dining, wine and travel. More on rhe poster and Megeve. “Our winter poster features the snow-blanketed town of Megève. We first visited this winter wonderland many years ago and were captivated by it’s charm, style, and skiing. This, the first in a series, is a limited and signed print of just 250. Collect the series for a stunning artistic tribute to France. In the late 18th century, Megeve was a thriving town of 2,400 farmers, herders, and lumberjacks, but the rural status ended in 1916 when the mountain hamlet was “discovered” by Baroness Maurice de Rothschild who decided it would make an excellent French rival for Saint Moritz.”

Wallpaper* has produced a video about the new Pompidou Centre in Metz. This is the first decentralization of a major French cultural institution, and the location has been chosen in part due to lack of major cultural resource in the area. Additionally, the city is advantageously located to attract visitors from neighboring nations.

Selectism - Parfumerie Generale

Developing perfumes is no easy task. Most people in the business go to perfumery schools in Europe and land some gigs in high house locations throughout scented world. But some like aerospace chemist, Pierre Guillaume, simply played around with scents in his spare time.

Pierre Guillaume began Parfumerie Generale from this hobby and now has over twenty-five fragrances in the high end niche perfume market. He sticks to his guns using the same process he used in aerospace by “bombarding raw materials” with alcohol to “break” the perfumes. Currently only available in Europe, look for Parfumerie Generale to land Stateside soon (via GQ March).

Lucien Pellat Finet x Kenny Scharf

French cashmere expert Lucien Pellat Finet has collaborated this season with artist Kenny Scharf. The artist that became famous in the 80’s, is known for his fusion of fantastic fiction and pop culture – cartoon like characters from an imaginary universe. 4 caricatures from his early works were taken and put onto the fine cashmere of the French brand.

In other news, there is also a new Lucien Pellat Finet flagship store now in London – 51 Elizabeth Street!
