selectism - Jamie Ward Furniture

Jamie Ward is based in Manchester and builds furniture exclusively out of second handparts. His designs are contemporary with twists on classic forms. His "Recycled Table," for example, proves that even when wrapped in newspaper the s-curve of aqueen anne leg is "the line of beauty." Ward’s collection includes chairs, tables and stools. All the key ingredients to a well appointed home.

selectism - Calvin Klein Home Furniture

Known primarily for undergarments and jeans, Calvin Klein get a lot of coverage on these parts. However, when Wallpaper previews some of the Calvin Klein Home furniture offerings, we take notice. Low and behold, a few of the selections arehonestly eye catching. The sleigh bed and wardrobe/chest of drawers are both bold, powerful pieces. Additionally, the line includes a rather striking side chair.

Some of our favorites from Calvin Klein Home’s furniture after the jump.

selectism - Extremis Tolt Furniture Set

There’s no denying a well designed bench gets our hearts pumping. That’s why we’re grateful to our friends at Retro to Go for alerting us to the Tolt Furniture Set from Extremis. Now available at Nest, the set was designed by Michael Young. The short benches have wonderful curved edges and are made of robinia wood. More hightech Corian is used on the table top. Mixing traditional and new material to great effect, the set is perfect for homes with a bit of mixed decor.

Suzan Fellman Vintage Scarf Furniture Collection

selectism - Suzan Fellman Vintage Scarf Furniture Collection

There is a long standing tradition of using period garments to dress furniture. During the 1920s (and a bit beyond), collectors of the Colonial Revival often sought dresses to use as authentic coverings. Though not directly related to this trend, Suzan Fellman takes vintage scarfs as and employs them to drive the visual treatment of her SF collection. Dior, Chanel, no one in high fashion is safe from Fellman’s scissors. Theresult is a series of chairs with classic patterning and sometimes bold, unexpected branding.

The Record Cabinet by Atocha Design

Selectism - The Record Cabinet by Atocha Design

If you are a record collector, your significant other is a very special person. They are able to take and accept your love of 180gram vinyl and the reality that it will be part of the family – always there and sounding damn good. For years, the solution to your partner’s acceptance of your vinyl was to store it in either a backroom, basement, or in the living room using the IKEA Expedit shelving system.

The good people at Atocha Design raise the bar in vinyl storage with their "The Record Cabinet." Finished in American Walnut and fashioned in the form of a bureau, this cabinet not only stores 95 LPs per drawers and can be congifured on demands to hold CDs as well as 7inch vinyl (my preference). The price does not come low though, but then would you expect it to with this beautiful piece of furniture? Its pushing 12,500$US easily but he/she will love you for it. (via gearcrave)

highsnobiety - dorophy tang for adidas

This past weekend Adidas opened its massive new Beijing outpost. In celebration, a special exhibition of Dorophy Tang was mounted. Tang, based in Hong Kong and China, mixed Adidas heritage, footballing visuals and French furniture forms into her display. Unmitigated joy comes through the smiling, chubby little kids that figure in each work. Nice reminder of what the sporting life should be like. (via Think Silly).

Selectism - Artek for MONOCLE Stools

MONOCLE Magazine and Artek Furniture teamed up together for the launch of a stool. "MONOCLE is now joining forces with Artek to bring you an anniversary edition of Stool 60. The anniversary stool is upholstered with Finnish moose leather. The texture of the leather is stunningly elegant and at same time rugged and comfortable, since the scars and other marks of life are visible. Intriguing details at the bottom of the stool are the black iron nails and brass screws which will age gracefully over time. The anniversary edition is hand made with special care and numbered." High Design Desks

selectism - high design desks

Auctions are not only great for finding the best of the best (or alternatively some really cheap crap), but also as instructive events. Catalogs and public viewings are some of the best ways to get first hand experience with iconic design, and the mostfamous of artists. This is particularly true of modern decorative arts, which are often confined to museum storage rooms.

Phillips de Pury & Company is selling some great desks today. Included is the work of Marc Newson, Jean Pouve, Phillip Michael Wolfson and Gio Ponti. While it might be a touch late to jet to NY for the sale, the catalog is up on the website and totally worth anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours of your time.

Branex Inflatable Furniture

selectism - branex inflatable furniture

Pumping air into a chair or bed shouldn’t just be reserved for that surprise guest or tailgate party. Branex is reintroducing the Quasar Line of inflatable furniture, first released in 1969. A sofa, arm chair and stool are included. Far more stylish than that bud version that might be stashed in the basement, and a little more refined than aNew York Knicks blow up seat.
