Ben Sherman Modern Classics applies over 50 years of shirt making expertise to bring a range of classic, everyday (read simple) pieces that flow neatly into any wardrobe. The first collection drops this season. A few days in Scotland helped the BSMC team capture the essence of the new line.

The story behind the shoot is as such, “A couple of weeks back Ben Sherman Modern Classics hit the road – the destination the remote village of Kilchoan, on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most westerly point on British mainland.  Nearly 600 miles from London, and 55 miles from the nearest town – on highland roads, that’s a two and a half hour drive!  The next ten days were spent hiking the highlands and mountains, checking out the wildlife, beaches and the local islands, as well as their whisky distilleries and some amazing shellfish, including a diving expedition to catch our own lunch.  A six hour drive was to follow, to the north coast in search of some waves, for some more hiking along the spectacularly rugged coastline, and to check out some very remote pubs. It was a beautiful getaway to some of Britain’s most untouched corners. AW10 Modern Classics accompanied us along the way, and needless to say, it stood up well to the physical demands the rugged environment asked of it.”

Before we start digging in all week at the Spring 2011 runway and presentations, a quick cardigan from the J. Lindeberg Autumn 2010 line. Lambswool is pushing hard this Fall. “Ribbed cuffs and hemline, modern silhouette for superior comfort and impeccable design.  The heavier knit allows it to be used as an outerwear piece.”

The Burberry family digs into their archives to offer four modern takes on shearling wool coats. “Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey has worked with original outerwear from the Burberry archive, updating each to provide a protective, functional and relevant design for the modern man.” Three of the shearlings come in an updated aviator jacket cut while the fourth is a military inspired look that allows for removable of the liner in warmer settings. The military green shearling comes in on the low end at just under $3000.

For Autumn 2010, the Burberry Prorsum collection features this “indigo washed” military shirt. “Long sleeve indigo wash denim shirt. Two chest flap patch pockets, slit cuffs with snap button closure and pleat running the length of the back. Six snap button closure, fabric lined side splits and rounded tail ending.” The shirt looks best worn rather than modeled solo.

MOSCOT sent over a preview of what they have in store for the latter half of 2010. “The six new styles – like the rest of the [Spirit] Collection – leverage the company’s 95 years of expertise in eyewear, sensibility and downtown New York City heritage, reinterpreting classic design elements from the MOSCOT Originals Collection for a slightly more progressive, modern look. Each frame is constructed from a combination of metal and the finest Italian acetate – made by the fourth generation Mazzuchelli family – and feature the company’s new branded “M” on the temple tips.” The full 20 frame “Spirit Collection” will be showcased at SILMO Paris in September.

Burberry sends over looks from their Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2010 pre-collection, on the heels of their Milan presentation this weekend. The forthcoming collection is a wide one with overcoats and outwear that’s urban and country appropriate. The vests are bold and well defined.  For those who want a closer view of their Milan presentation, “Burberry will be live streaming its Burberry Prorsum Autumn Winter 2010 menswear show live from Milan on Saturday at 6PM (Milan time) (GMT+1) at live.burberry.com”
