Dodd Clothing – New from England

04 January 2012, 20.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

dodd clothing fall2011 1 Dodd Clothing New from England

Dodd Clothing joins the ever growing crowd of menswear brands coming through England. No need to get on about why England and the U.K. remain true playaz in the fashion game, but we will note that everyone else is watching them as well. Dodd has two things going for it that will be important to some: the clothing is designed and well as produced in England and remains a tight eight pieces for Autumn/Winter. Expect more from Dodd in the coming seasons (we hear a men’s bag is coming with Shackleton (not to be confused with Shackleton the musician who we love).

Big John Autumn/Winter 2011 Lookbook

bigjohn fw11 01 Big John Autumn/Winter 2011 Lookbook

Eighty four eighty five display Autumn/Winter 2011 from Japanese label Big John.

Founded in 1940 by Kotaro Ozaki, it was originally a workwear producer, making uniforms and overalls for all sorts of jobs. They went on to import American clothing in the 50s, primarily denim to meet the demand of Japanese consumers eager for U.S garms and have been in existence in one form or another ever since. This collection features lots of staples; jeans, shawl collars, check shirts and chinos. Big John’s real strength is in their ability to get the cuts and shapes just right.

Carhartt Heritage Camo Savant Trousers

Carhartt Heritage Camo Savant Trousers

If you history of street fashion going back as far as you can remember (for me that would be the 80’s), camo/DPM patterns have always been there. No matter where you lay – be it street-wear or the high end… camo remains a re-played device of the fashion world. It has not come and gone as a trend; the patterns, while re-worked and re-imagined, have remained  almost seasonal. Is there another pattern in fashion that retains such high/low appeal (and please don’t say stripes)?

While many will look at the “heritage” tagline against any brand with a raised brow in 2011, one cannot deny that a dash of camouflage seems to reset opinions. Take these pants from the Carhartt Heritage Autumn Winter 2011 collection: the simple chino breathes again with out much work. Sure, we’ve seen camo on slim-cut BDU’s and chinos before and we’re will to bet you will see them again. Goodhood has these.

Yuketen Autumn/Winter 2011 Shoes

yuketen ln cc 01 Yuketen Autumn/Winter 2011 Shoes

LN-CC present some Autumn Winter action from Yuketen. The American-Japanese company continues to offer some incredible hard-wearing footwear for those who like their shoes as far away from slim and sleek as possible.

Vibram lives on, joined by the zig-zag sole for anyone averse to that bright white grip. The leopard print boat shoe is loud, proud but somehow doesn’t make us think of Joan Collins. Of course the usual styles continue with work boot, moccasin and hunting shoe inspired creations.

champion jpn 01 Champion (Japan) Autum/Winter 2011 Collection

8485 preview the Champion Reverse Weave collection designed for the Japanese market. Yeah, sorry about that non-Japan residents.

A million miles from their USA counterparts, this range takes it cue from 50s and 60s athletic wear as well as military issue garments. Hoodies, sweatshirts and track pants sit alongside more unexpected items such as the navy peacoat and shawl collar cardigan. The fabric has that heavy knit feel, these sweats are made to withstand the cold and demonstrate the whole collection has that repro feel, with the Japanese division digging deep into the archives for these classic pieces.

Dredgers Union Autumn/Winter 2012 Outerwear

Cleveland’s Dredgers Union delivers a small collection of outwear for the 2011 cold seasons. Keeping their production in the United States has always been an important aspect of the line, which sells direct to customers through their online shop. Two in a row from France. Kitsune delivers these wonderful illustrations from their “Maison” Fall Winter 2011 collection. Illustrated by Jean-Phillipe Delhomme (also know as The Unknown Hipster), they give designer, Masaya Kuroki’s fashions a pleasant look. This is not Delhomme’s first work for Kitsune. In Spring 2011, he illustrated the collection in a similar manner.

Close Up and Private for Costume National Autumn/Winter 2011

01 December 2011, 20.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - cuap-costume-national-01

Sergei Sviatchenko’s Close Up and Private has been carving a niche for itself separate from the menswear boom for a while now. It’s not lead by trends (although it popped up at the time when everyone was in love with Ivy style) and there’s enough touches to it to suggest that it’s an art project instead of a photoshoot. This time he’s worked with Costume National to create this interpretation of their AW11 collection, which are more than worthy of your attention. They might even get a reblog or two on tumblr.

See more after the leap.
