Dana Lee – Autumn/Winter 2012 Looks

Dana Lee AW2012 01 Dana Lee Autumn/Winter 2012 Looks

A beautifully shot lookbook, the work of photographer Jody Rogac, for Dana Lee’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The kind of lookbook that sets a mood as opposed to being factual, it captures Lee’s attitude to design perfectly. A thoughtful, relaxed line full of rich fabrics and colours; fur, florals, stripes and leather – not a huge departure from previous seasons but if you’re after a bit of classic Dana Lee then you won’t be disappointed. OEN, soon to be stockists, have more.

Simon Spurr Autum/Winter 2012 Collection

Look 01 Simon Spurr Autum/Winter 2012 Collection
We’re again transported to back into the 20th century with Simon Spurr’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection looking to the military and the London street photography of Robert Frank as foundational muses. A whole segment of Frank’s London shots from the ’50s focused on foreboding bankers moving about in a foggy financial district, and there’s definitely menace to the monochromatic palette and silhouettes seen here.

As a contrast, there are elements in tribute to Tommy Nutter’s 1960s revisions of the traditional suit, giving the sharpness of all the austerity something to cut around. The most noticeable feature in this regard is a dramatically enlarged houndstooth pattern that shows up on blazers, coats, sweaters and even an entire suit. Some breezy plaids also lighten the mood, making for a balanced set full of stuff we’d like very much to own.

Pointer Brand – Shawl Collar Chore Coats and More

pointer brand fall 2012 17 Pointer Brand Shawl Collar Chore Coats and More

Pointer Brand is one of those very well priced American workwear companies that have been here since the 40’s. Rather than being fueled by the heritage/workwear movement, the brand remained staid and continued to produced their garments as necessary without any serious regard to trend. They do their own thing.

Showcasing for the first time at PROJECT this week in Las Vegas, the Pointer Brand looks to make their presence a bit more known to the buyers walking the floor with a wide selection of garments – including some newly rediscovered silhouettes from their past – at a reasonable pricepoint.

Our favorite take-aways were two chore jacket including the one shown above with a shawl collar detail. Not your average look and faily unique to the market.

Moncler Grenoble Autumn/Winter 2012 – Looks

14 February 2012, 23.37 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

montcler 01 Moncler Grenoble Autumn/Winter 2012 Looks
As expected, there was lots of conceptual grandeur in the presentation of Moncler Grenoble’s Autumn/Winter 2012-13 collection. Held in Wollman Rink in Central Park, teams of professional athletes donned the looks and executed a synchronized performance choreographed by Luam (whose client list includes Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Britney Spears) set to, among other things, an acapella performance of New York, New York.

Drawing inspiration from technical ski wear, Kubruck’s vision of outer space, and the wide-eyed optimism of the ’60s, the menswear comes in a host of bold colors, including navy, white and very bright red. The fabrics are a blend of tech (high-performance Japanese fabrics) and tried-and-true (Scottish wools, flannels and tweeds) and the looks are, well, kind of intense. There are plenty of understated pieces that would be prized cold-weather friends in most closets, but there are also some things we’d probably snicker at on the slopes (read: “Is that dude wearing a cummerbund?”).

Public School Autumn/Winter 2012 Lookbook

14 February 2012, 17.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Public School-1
The irony in the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection from Public School is that the looks would be far more at home in an Amish school. The pastoral overtones aren’t thunderous, but they do hang heavy—most literally in the wide brimmed hats on the backs of the heads, the high-water pants and the thick black boots. As we mentioned the other day, these are exciting times for those with a real fondness for the high points of older eras. Of course, fashion always draws inspiration from the past, but there seems to be a real zeitgeist obsession with doing everything the old fashioned way (and taking pictures of the results on iPhones).

Got a little off-topic there. Bottom line is you have to look to the past and project the future, and we’re not seeing a whole lot of the latter here. There are some splendid pieces, however. The navy blazer and black cardigan look infinitely adaptable, for example. But we don’t expect the hats to take hold. You’d spend at least half of a windy day chasing them down the street.

Here is a preview look at the forthcoming Barbour collection for Autumn Winter 2012. The highlight is the Steve McQueen jacket patterened after the one the actor wore in 1964. A strong look. Much more in the video.

Robert Geller Autumn/Winter 2012 - Runway #nyfw

Robert Geller presented Autumn/Winter 2012 last night during #nyfw. The collection is an updated take on “what made English style so great.” The collection is clearly a not to the street scenes of London and beyond. Earth tones fill the garments with the occasional hits of “burn orange” and “dusty marigold” rounding out layers looks that include cropped knits, military inspired anoraks, and a wide variety of trousers – fitted, roomy, and two-third when necessary. Check the Common Projects shoes and Etiquette Clothiers socks that fill the feet.

N. Hoolywood Autumn/Winter 2012 - Runway #nyfw

With inspiration coming from Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea,” designer, Daisuke Obana presents the N. Hoolywood Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The touches to ports of call are apparent and done well: short pants with seafaring knit tops and striped numbers. No arguing that the collection is a strong fit for all.
